February 5, 2014 www.DesertMessenger.com 33 Contributed By: Violet Kiss President Quartzsite Rotary We are noticing some of our sea- sonal vendors taking off for the Tucson Shows and some snow- birds heading home. Wherever you're going, "Happy Trails" and we'll all be here with open arms on your return! Those of you who are still here and the rest of our citizenry, we're going to update you with our "do- ings". We've been really busy with Rotary business this month. Sev- eral volunteer Rotarians headed up to the Lake Havasu Balloon Festival sponsored by the Havasu Lions and Rotary Clubs. They needed help so we volunteered and worked at their admission gate areas. What a beau- tiful sight watching over 60+ hot air balloons sweeping the skies. The last few weeks had Violet Kiss and Steve Schue running to the several area Rotary Clubs in Lake Havasu and Parker as well as Blythe Club lunch meetings introducing our- selves, our mission, our local com- munity programs and inviting all to our Black & White fundraiser din- ner at the Black Pearl Restaurant on the River in Parker next door to the Emerald Canyon Golf Course. We are happy to announce several of their Presidents and other mem- bers from our nearby clubs will be attending. This brings me to invit- ing our townspeople and snowbirds to our fundraiser. To answer a question, all money raised is 100% for our community projects. On Saturday, February 15th, we are having our 2nd Annual Black & White Dinner at the Black Pearl Restaurant (Pirate's Den) on the River just 5 miles north of Blue Wa- ter Casino. For $50 per person, you get an 8 oz. Filet Mignon with a 6 Rotary Doings oz. Lobster Tail, warm bread, salad, vegetables, a baked potato and a choice of dessert. All non-alcoholic beverages are included and there is a cash bar for the rest. And, yes, all taxes and tips are included also. With sincere thanks, we are giving every person a 'gift bag' with choco- lates, mints, local business and ven- dor goodies and one free raffl e tick- et. There will be a raffl e, no need to be present, one for $5, and 5 tickets for $20. We are raffl ing off a 32 inch HDTV, a 7 inch Android WiFi tablet, jewelry from Hardies and Main Street Trading Post, amongst other local surprises. I have a cut- off date of February 8th! Great news! We offi cially have Mr. Arnel Anog, 2013's Teacher of the Year at Salome High School where the high majority of our students attend. He has accepted and will offi ciate our Interact Club there. Interact is a Junior Rotary for students age 14-18 to achieve better lives through learning about higher or vocational education, having a social club for themselves to explore and learn about the Ro- tary spirit and community service. They will learn about and join other schools in Arizona, the US, and in other countries to learn about each other, and help each other. Our Quartzsite youth are very impor- tant to us now and to future! Are there any Rotarians visiting? Business Owners? Please join us. Address and email below. Any questions? Send it to the Edi- tor, Ms. Shanana "Rain" Golden- Bear, here, or directly to us. We'd be happy to answer those questions here for you.
