Ironwood St., Quartzsite The Quartzsite Desert Flyers, the local radio controlled model aircraft fl ying club, will be holding their 3rd Annual Fun Fly on Thurs- day February 6th 2014. A Fun Fly is an open invitation to all RC pi- lots, friends and spectators to a day of fl ying and camaraderie. The Fun Fly will be held at the "James B. Colwell fi eld, 780 North Plymouth Road commencing at 10:00am with the offi cial fl y past of the colors and the National Anthem. Last years Fun Fly attracted 68 pilots from fi ve different clubs and over 200 spectators. The Quartzsite Desert Flyers was formed in 2005 with only fi ve members. It now has a roster of 60 active members and a 500 foot paved runway, thanks to the Town of Quartzsite. The fl ying fi eld has the highest continuous, daily use of any other area in the Quartzsite Town Park. In the spring of 2010 by proclamation of the Town of Quartzsite, the fi eld was offi cially named after Jimmy Colwell. This honour was bestowed upon Mr. Colwell due to his energy and devo- tion to the hobby. The Desert Flyers wish to extend an open invitation to all, whether potential fl iers or spectators, to a day of spectacular fl ying. Be sure to join the fun Saturday, Feb. 6th. Queen of Peace Church is raffl ing a one week stay at the Oasis Resort in Palm Springs (valued at $1995) plus 12 other gifts that have been donated by the following mer- chants in Quartzsite: Dos Amigos, Herb's Hardware, Hardies, La Casa del Rancho, Mountain Quail Café, Cactus Curlers, KB Tools, RV Lifestyles, Silly Al's, Crazy Jerry's, The Eatery, and Taco Mio. There will only be 1,000 tickets sold so the odds are pretty good that some lucky person will get one of the prizes including the stay at the Oasis Resort. The resort stay will be the week of March 12-19, 2014 and is for a 2 bedroom unit so the winner could take several guests along.
