22 www.DesertMessenger.com February 5, 2014 Submitted by Linda Taylor Rainbow Acres Tourney #5 Results There were over 20 golfers out to play in the fi fth tournament of this season at Rainbow Acres on January 16. There is never a lack of competitive spirit but the best part is just getting out and enjoying a morning with friends. You never know who you will be teamed with, but that makes it possible to get acquainted with people from all across the country and Canada. The team of Harvey Gib- son and Joe McWilliams took the honors for the day with a score of 37. They were closely followed by Chester Henry and Cletus Winkler who teamed up for a 38. There was a tie for 3rd place with 41's between the teams of Dino Linden & Robert Barnard and Bill Toner & Pete Lilly. There were 4 teams who tied with a score of 42, Robert Dickson & Dean Harrington, Linda Taylor & Sherm Cloward, Gary McGowan & Debi Jensen, and Kit Wilkins and Tom Chopski. In the closest to the pin competition, Sherm Cloward won for men & Linda Taylor for wom- en. In longest drive contest, winners were Debi Jensen and Cletus Winkler. A special hole-in-one contest was won by Kit Wilkins. Other holes-in-one for the day were shot by Bill Toner on #11, Sherm Cloward on #8, George Lische on #17, and Joe McWilliams. The next tournament at Rainbow Acres will be on Jan. 30 starting at 9:30 and the cost is $6. Come on out for a great time! It was very blustery on Jan. 29 when RA hosted its 6th tournament of the season. Despite the windy condi- tions, we had a fantastic turnout of 30 participants. As always, there is fi erce competition and on this day 3 teams tied for 1st place and 3 teams tied for 2nd place. Turning in fi rst place rounds of 39 were the teams of Dino Linden & Brad Romaine, Russ Leininger & Linda Taylor, and Kit Wilkins & Cletus Winkler. In close pursuit, with rounds of 40 were the teams of Robert Barnard & Sherm Cloward, Robert Dickson & Gary McGowan, and Bruce Scott & Jerry Taylor. There were only 2 holes-in-one for the day. Those were shot by Dino Linden on hole #16 and Russ Leininger on hole #8. In the long drive contest, winner for women was Debi Jensen and winner for men was Bud Key. In the closest to the pin contest, winner for women was Linda Durant and winner for men was Russ Leininger. Our next tournament is scheduled for Thursday, February 13 at 9:30. Come on out for a fun round of golf. Cost is $6. Leading the fi eld was the team of Lee Raye Christner and Jerry Taylor shot a sizzling score of 33. They had 3 holes-on-one during their round and Lee Raye didn't miss a chip shot after the fi rst hole. Second place with another very good round was the team of Joe McWilliams and Pete Lilly with a 13 under par score of 36. There was a 3-way tie for 3rd place with scores of 38. Those teams were Kit Wilkins & Lee Christner, Grant Berube & Robert Dickson, and Bill Buckley & Gene Howard. Bill hit the winning chip to break the tie. Dino Linden, tournament director, started a progressive game on Saturday. A number is drawn each week and the person holding that number can win up to $20 for a hole-in-one on the mystery hole for the day. Gene Swallow was drawn this week but unfortunately, did not get a hole-in-one on mystery hole #13. Men and women are invited to play at the weekly tournament on Saturdays starting at 9:00.
