Both in designer and bridal jewelry the trends are innovation, unexpected choices, and personal expression. There is also a growing awareness of jewelry designed with ethically-sourced materials…designers and consumers alike are increasingly concerned with where metals and gemstones are acquired. Some of the industry's most iconic designers discuss the trends for 2014. Enjoy! Sum up 2013 in one word: I can think of several. Recovery. Transitional. Self-confident customers coming out of the woodwork! What design trends do you anticipate in 2014? How about larger trends within the industry? Yellow gold is emerging as a strong trend with big bold color in unusual combinations. I see a return to femininity and classics but, and this is a very, very big but reinterpreted with an unusual or asymmetric twist. Are you working on any special projects or collaborations this year? I kind of march to my own drummer. How do you think the economy will impact the jewelry industry in 2014? The improvement in the economy – albeit gradual – coupled with better metal and diamond prices is a very welcome trend for any designer. Will you be adding or omitting any trade shows to your normal routine this year? The only one I am sadly dropping out of is AGTA. It's a show I love but it conflicts with Centurion in Arizona where I will be exhibiting this year. I will definitely be at JCK Las Vegas and most of the smaller Centurion shows. If you weren't designing jewelry, what would you be doing? Cooking! I would have my own line of jams or own a small restaurant or catering business. Lika Behar likabehar.com
