Page 20 - Rutherford Weekly BOBBIE SMITH COOK Bobbie S m i t h C o o k , age 83, of Rutherfordton, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2014. A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Horace Lee and Mary Jane Rogers Smith. Bobbie was a retired operator for Bell South and a member of First United Methodist Church of Rutherfordton. She is survived by a niece, Pam Hutchins and husband Ronald of Rutherfordton; sister Kittie Henderson of Lehigh Acres,FL; granddaughter Victoria McKee of FL; two great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Cook, son, Marty McKee, sister, Flossie Callahan, and brothers, Horace Dupree Smith and James Clarence (JC) Smith. Memorial services will be announced later. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Rutherford County, PO Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043. Crowe's Mortuary is serving the family. DAWN BRANNOCK COX Mrs. Dawn Brannock Cox age 85 went home to be with the Lord on Friday December 27, 2013. A native of Galax, VA she was a daughter of the late Charles and Tula Katherine Combs Brannock and the widow of Samuel Lee Cox. Mrs. Cox was a retired comptroller and a member of Grace Bible Church. Left to cherish her memories are her daughter Kathy Hutchinson (John) of Rutherfordton, NC; her son Barry Cox of Rutherfordton, NC; her sister Betty Sue Richey of Tequesta, FL; her sister in law Winkie Brannock of Sparta, NC; her grandchildren – Robert Cox (Penny), Jamie DiPentino (Tony), Aaron Hutchinson (Heather), Nancy Hughes (Perry), as well as thir- www.rutherfordweekly.com 828-248-1408 teen great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. A celebration of her life wad held at Snow Hill Baptist Church 1423 Snow Hill Road Galax, VA with Mr. Sam Blair officiating. Concluding services were held in the church cemetery. GAIL HARDIN G a i l Patricia C o l e Hardin of Jacksonville, NC, formerly of Rutherfordton, passed away December 30, 2013. A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Lance and Lois Houser Cole. Gail is survived by her son Tony Hardin and wife Debbie of Jacksonville, NC; grandchildren Joshua and Sarah Hardin of Jacksonville, NC; and her sister, Brenda Metcalf of Spindale. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Verner Hardin. Funeral services were held at Southern Baptist Church in Ruth, NC with Rev. James Kelley officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Gail's memory to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 8th Avenue, 7th Fl., New York, NY 10001. Crowe's Mortuary is assisting the Hardin family. FRANKIE SCOGGINS GODFREY Frankie Scoggins Godfrey, age 72, of Ellenboro, N C , passed away Monday, December 30, 2013. Born October 16, 1941 in Walker County, Georgia, she was a daughter to the late Hollie Forrest Scoggins and Jerusha Juanita Newton Scoggins. She worked for Turner Trucking for several years as a team driver with her late husband, Bobby Delano Godfrey. Frankie enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her family. She loved her family dearly. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Cliffside Lodge #100. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brother, Forrest Scoggins and sister, Linda Oliver. Survivors include one daughter, Frankie Lanita Causby and husband, Roy of Ellenboro; five grandchildren, Kiyini Smith and husband, Darin of Golden Valley, Bobby Shane Harrison and wife, Sarah of Cleveland County, John Cody Causby of Ellenboro, Robert Edmond Causby and wife, Lindsey of Bostic and Shannon Causby of Ellenboro and four great-grandchildren, Makayla Yarbrough, Madelyn Elizabeth Harrison, Bobby Dakota Harrison and Joey Grant. Funeral services were conducted at Walls Baptist Church with Reverend David Philbeck officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. DOROTHY "DOT" WISE HANSON Dorothy "Dot" Wise Hanson, age 80, of Spindale, NC, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013. Born April 9, 1933 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph William Wise and Maude Rosa Hunsinger Wise. She was a graduate of Tri-High School, class of 1951 and worked for Cone Mills for over thirty years before her retirement. Dot was a member of Race Path Baptist Church and loved her family and her grand- children dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Hanson; four sisters, two brothers and two infant grandchildren, Joshua Ruppe and Little Joey Hanson. Survivors include daughter, Sandy Hanson Ruppe and husband, L.C., Jr. of Ellenboro; two sons, Walter Joseph Hanson and wife, Carol of Spindale and Mike Hanson and wife, Angela of Ellenboro; sister, Betty Blanton of Cliffside; brother, Talmadge Wise and wife, Margaret of Charlotte. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Shane Ruppe and wife, Sara, Brandy Searcy and husband, Walden, Tiffany Vibbert and husband, Brian, Courtney Kelly and husband, Andy; four great-grandchildren, Madison Morrow, Lexi Wilkins, Bella Holland and Harper Kelly along with a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Fain Morrison officiating. Interment followed at Providence United Methodist Cemetery. ISABEL FLORES GERVASON I s a b e l F l o r e s Gervason, age 91, of Forest City, NC passed away on January 02, 2014. She was born on November 19, 1922 in Arequipa, Peru. She was a wonderful and loving wife and mother; a homemaker, seamstress, avid flower gardener and loved to exercise and walk. Isabel was a best friend to her husband and children. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Rutherfordton, NC. She was a volunteer at Rutherford Hospital and Meals on Wheels. She is predeceased by her mother Rosamaria Arriaga and her father Jose Fidel Flores. Crowe's Mortuary is assisting the family. BETTY MAE LEDBETTER Betty Mae Ledbetter, age 83, of Forest City, NC, passed a w a y Thursday, January 2, 2014. Born May 2, 1930 in Rutherford County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Thurman Kennedy and Lula Mae Henson Kennedy. Betty worked for Fieldcrest Mills for many years and the Alexander Baptist Daycare for several years. She was a member of the Alexander United Methodist Church. Betty enjoyed cooking, taking care of children and especially spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sister, Hazel Kennedy Hardin and great-granddaughter, Amber Nicole Greene. Survivors include her husband of sixty-four years, Dewitt "Bud" Ledbetter; four sons, Dewitt Ledbetter and wife, Elizabeth of Forest City, Douglas Ledbetter and wife, Cathy of Bostic, Scott Ledbetter and wife, Brenda and Todd Ledbetter and wife, Ginger all of Forest City; daughter, Deborah Greene and husband, Harold of Forest City; brother, Max Kennedy and wife, Gwen of Greenville, SC and sister, Shirley Wheeler of Caroleen. She is also survived by her lifelong best friend (sister), Marion Hutchins; seventeen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at the Alexander UMC with Dr. Rev. J.J. Powell, Jr. officiating. Interment followed in the Alexander Mills City Cemetery. Born May 12, 1935 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late William Bennett and Bertha Wilson Bennett. She worked for Cone Mills for many years and was a past member of Sandy Mush Baptist Church. Beatrice enjoyed walking, reading and working puzzle books. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hezzie B. Robbins; son, Gary John Bennett; stepson, Doug Robbins and two brothers, Howard Bennett and Lawson Bennett. Survivors include three sisters, Edna Bailey of Chesnee, SC, Estelle Jackson and husband, Hoyle of Sunnyview, NC and Brenda Poteat of Sandy Mush; brother, Glen Bennett and wife, Kay of Columbus, NC; step-son, Don Robbins of Florida and three grandchildren. A graveside service was conducted at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Bob Philbeck officiating. Memorial donations are suggested to the charity of choice.
