From the heart Undergraduates Continue Strong Academics A s you are aware we, the undergraduates of Indiana Alpha, have come upon some difficult times. Although we lead the campus in many areas such as academics, we are not setting the example that is expected of us or what we should expect of ourselves. We want to prove that we are worthy members of Sigma Phi Epsilon and able to move forward with a heightened sense of responsibility. We have been a strong chapter on campus, but see that there is still clearly room for us to improve our brotherhood and our reputation. I would like to provide you a snapshot of what we have been doing well, in an effort to show where we know we are strong, and where we know we need to improve. By finishing third in academics, we topped the all-women's, all-men's, and all-campus averages for the fourth straight semester. This incredible accomplishment has made us a model for what all fraternities on campus should strive for academically. This is going to be more difficult with our new sanctions, but we feel we can still maintain a solid membership at Indiana Alpha. Classes like the past two only go to suggest a strong desire for men to become SigEps.2 Fall live-in numbers are usually pretty strong and this year has been no different. The house is in good condition with vast contributions from Executive Outcomes and we project this number to reach capacity within the next year.3 To complement our accomplishments in academics and campus-wide manpower, Indiana Alpha has made a statement through its athletic abilities. Due to the hard work of Athletic Chairmen Jacob Backstrom '16 and Tanner Bennett '15, the chapter has remained a top competitor in the major sports on campus. The brothers have managed to make it to the medals in soccer, flag football, and basketball. are determined to change any unproductive culture that is in the chapter. Although many of the actions that put us in a difficult position were actions of a few, we understand that we all need to accept the consequences and make changes. We will strive to learn from the sanctions that we have received and to earn back the trust from our alumni, our university, and our national fraternity. Through the hard work and determination of all those before us, the executive board and I are excited and proud to have the opportunity to further the reputation of Indiana Alpha. We will work relentlessly to untarnish the legacy of our great chapter. With the support of alumni and volunteers, we understand that these upcoming semesters will be full of challenges but also a chance for growth for the historic chapter of Indiana Alpha. Fraternally, Troy Cutler '15 president@purdue-sigeps.com As we look forward to 2014, we want our alumni, brothers, and parents to know that we Spring 2013 Academics: 3.03 Chapter GPA (3rd out of 40 fraternities) 1 Current Manpower: 137 Members (5th out of 40 fraternities) 2 Fall 2013 Live-In Members: 67 Men 3
