Reynolds Family Legacy (Continued from page 3) Dick grew up in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, northwest of Chicago, and landed at the University of Illinois where he pledged Chi Zeta in 1948 and was initiated in 1949. As an undergraduate, he was on the track team, earning two letters, and on a twomile relay team that set an American record at the Drake Relays. He was also high alpha during his senior year. He graduated in January 1953 with a degree in general engineering and was an Ensign in the Naval Reserve. He did a stint in the Navy during the Korean War during the next two years. During that time, his cousin, Tom Reynolds '54 X662, joined Chi Zeta before transferring to Denison University. Dick returned to Champaign-Urbana in January 1955, where he went back to graduate school for mechanical engineering and took a job as an instructor in general engineering full time, taking one graduate course each semester. While he was in graduate school he met his wife, Trudy, then a sophomore from Olney, at the high school circus. The circus was an event put on by U of I students for visiting high school students. Dick and Trudy moved back to Northern Illinois where he took a job with Sundstrand's Aviation Division, making systems parts for "aircraft." He spent the next 35 years with the company, which eventually became part of United Technologies. Dick and Trudy enjoy staying in touch with friends from the fraternity, like Bill Stallman '48 X579, with whom he attended Homecoming, and attending sporting events and Krannert performances while visiting their second home in Champaign.
