Chi Zetagram 3 Chi Zeta Achieves Success in Recruitment, Philanthropy, and Academics T he men of Lambda Chi Alpha have been busy this semester. Between classes, midterms, and social activities, your brothers have been spending their free time contributing to the University of Illinois and working to improve the community around it through a variety of philanthropic volunteer activities and intramural athletics. An exciting recruitment season brought 34 new associate members from across the United States and abroad into our ranks. A successful fall fundraiser brought our chapter together with 14 sororities to donate food items and more than $600 to the Eastern Illinois Foodbank. We are also proud to congratulate Jeremy Loescher '12 X2016 and Joey O'Donnell '12 X1999 for Teams competed in several their election to the campuswatermelon-based events to raise wide Inter-Fraternity Council money for the Eastern Illinois Food as vice president of service and Bank. Team captains Brandon Varel vice president of recruitment, '13 X2033 and Keenan Hannigan respectively. '12 X2017 with their team. Active as they have been, the men of Lambda Chi Alpha have not neglected to hit the books over the last semester. The chapter-average GPA has risen into the top tier of Greek organizations and we can proudly boast nine members who made last year's dean's list. These successes have been fueled by the efforts of Chi Zeta's cooking team, Jerry Edwards '05 X1735 and his wife, Shirley. They recently made headlines in the Daily Illini, which published a feature piece on the couple's 22 years of service to the fraternity this September. Associate members with High Alpha Mike Nora '13 X2020. Reynolds Family Legacy with Chi Zeta B rother Dick Reynolds '49 X600 has always considered his friends from Chi Zeta to be like family to him. That's probably a good thing considering that so many of Brother Reynolds' actual family members are Chi Zeta brothers. The Reynolds family also has a unique and little known connection to the construction of our chapter house. Dick's father, Henry Reynolds '21 X112, left the university with his wife, who graduated before him, and moved to Chicago where he went to work for his father's company, Union Interior Finish Company. The company designed and constructed custom-made millwork, mainly for churches and large mansions. Henry served on the building committee which built our chapter house. When the Chi Zeta house was being constructed, his firm built and installed the impressive wooden support beams in our living room. Henry's brother, Thomas Reynolds Jr. '27 X172, and his cousin, Glenn Reynolds '36 X293, were also members of the chapter. (Continued on page 4) We have been very happy to see an increase in alumni visits to the chapter house throughout the semester, and would like to personally thank everyone who attended our Homecoming celebration in October. We enjoyed swapping stories about the good ol' days with the alumni who made it to campus. I want to remind all of you that our door is always open, and we'd love to see you next time you find yourself in Champaign-Urbana. In ZAX, Tim Goss '10 X1922 timgoss80@gmail.com Dick Reynolds '49 X600 with High Alpha Mike Nora '13 X2020 and Alumni President Peter Kale '75 X1020.
