Washington Beta Bylines Alumnus Impressed with WABE Leadership Washington Beta Alumni Advisory Board Bob Weis '78 Values Fraternal Experience Dennis Cook '70 • rdcjuly9@aol.com B George Berry '72 • rainierfund@hotmail.com ob Weis '78 attended Washington State University on a baseball scholarship. Throughout his first semester at school he met several members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and was encouraged by the brotherhood and sense of family of the organization. He pledged Washington Beta Chapter and realized that those friendships would be with him for the rest of his life. Bob was a busy student at WSU, balancing academics, baseball, and fraternity life, but he made the effort to stay as involved as possible and build relationships with his brothers. "The relationships you build in life are so important and taking the time to invest in them and nurture them is well worth the effort," he said. One of Bob's favorite memories was taking the pledge class to Eugene, Oregon, to support a member who played football. "That day WSU beat the U of O and Ruben Mayes set a new NCAA rushing record, but it was Ron Bull '79, our pledge brother, who was carried off the field by his brothers. That's what it's all about!" Today, Bob serves as the senior vice president of worldwide sales for Corsair. His career started with Hewlett-Packard where he worked for 28 years in marketing, retiring in 2007 as a vice president. Bob also spent three years working for Microsoft. He is thankful for everything he learned during his time in the Washington Beta chapter house and believes it helped him become the person he is today. "With the help and support of my brothers, I grew as a person through experiences, hard work, responsibility, social interactions, and moral values. It's a memory and a set of friends I will have for life." The university and WABE remain important aspects of Bob's life; he visits campus and the chapter house often and has been impressed by the recent improvements. "I have been back over the last few years and I am so impressed with the young men who stepped up and are leading the way to get the ΣAE Fraternity at WSU back to its top quality reputation. Leaders like Bryant Smick '11 and Ben Pavish '16 are paving the way for a new generation of WABE men." Bob encourages brothers who have lost touch with the chapter to reconnect by reaching out to old friends. "You will pick up right where you left off. Make a trip to Pullman, support WSU, and stop by the chapter house to say hello," he said. Bob feels fortunate to have maintained many ΣAE friendships throughout the years. Bob lives in Coeur d Alene, Idaho, with his wife, June. The couple has three daughters who all attended WSU, so the family remains very supportive. "As tough as it is when we don't win, I love being a Coug and love being an ΣAE." You can contact Bob by e-mail at weis.bob@msn.com.
