the lion's roar SAE Ranked First in Greek Performance and Excellence Program Members Invite Alumni to View Extensive Chapter House Renovations I t has been a busy and exciting semester for the brothers of the New Hampshire Beta Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. The house has undergone a series of dramatic changes and the undergraduates are moving New Hampshire Beta onward and upward. Our members frequently host and participate in events, making the SAE letters prominent and highly regarded at the University of New Hampshire. New Hampshire Beta Gets Involved Jon Falkenburg ʼ14 and Jared Perkins ʼ14 work at a Sigma Alpha Epsilon-sponsored Durham community cleanup. Every year the University of New Hampshire hosts one of the largest Relay for Life events in the state. As a chapter we are continuously honored to work the event. Each year New Hampshire Beta runs all brothers on four-hour rotating shifts that cover the 24-hour event, as well as setup and take down. This year we received more than 400 hours of community service during the roughly 30-hour window. Brother Rishab Khanna ʼ15 played a key role in helping our chapter secure this annual position because he has served on the Relay for Life board the past four years, quickly rising as a key member of the planning committee and attaining the role as president. NHBE Leads Greek Life in UNH Greek Performance and Excellence Program The University of New Hampshire runs a yearlong program entitled the Greek Performance and Excellence Program (GPEP). The program allots certain point values to chapters for hosting or participating in philanthropic events, community-wide sober events, health- and safetyfocused educational events, and performing community service, as well as for a litany of other events and topics such as academic performance. The New Hampshire Beta Chapter is very proud to be ranked first among all Greek organizations on campus by an ever-increasing margin. As a chapter we have taken a competitive approach to this program and are doing all we can to be the most active and involved chapter we can be. Nick Morettin ʼ15, philanthropy chairman, Connor Monahan ʼ15, community service chairman, and Morgan Shea ʼ14, eminent deputy archon, have worked diligently to ensure our events are both frequent and well executed. Such performance has garnered positive feedback and attention from Greek Life coordinators, student leadership coordinators, and staff of the Memorial Union Building. Incredible Renovations Made to the Property This summer the chapter house underwent a series of impressive renovations and upgrades graciously funded by the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Financial & Housing Corporation (F&H) after a semester of strong undergraduate performance. Alumni returning to the chapter house will be met with far more change than just the absence of the third floor deck. The most notable change is a ductless heating and air conditioning system for each room and all common areas of the house. We are now very proud to be one of only two fraternity properties at Nick Natella ʼ16, Nate Landolt ʼ16, Dylan Bartlett ʼ16, and John Ahern ʼ16 were recognized for their excellent academic performance within the Greek community. the University of New Hampshire to provide such an amenity to our members. The chapter house also received a new, and much more efficient, boiler system to run our new ductless units. Other upgrades and renovations include a full repainting of all rooms and hallways, new beds and bureaus for every room, new floors for the first floor, and a full set of new leather furniture for the living room. During the summer, brothers living at the house stepped up to unload all of the new furniture and played integral roles in helping clear rooms that needed to be painted, as well as numerous other tasks that needed to be handled daily. The hard work has paid off tenfold as we continue to make the chapter house our home. The excellent performance at New Hampshire Beta has highlighted the chapter's focus on friendship, scholarship, and service. We are proud to live our mission daily and are collectively excited to see where the chapter can go. We hope all generations of alumni will return to the house to take in the renovations and share in the chapter's success.
