Alumnus Values New Hampshire Beta Brotherhood Jay Dewitt '86 Impressed with Chapter Improvements J ay Dewitt '86 says that being a member of the New Hampshire Beta Chapter meant more to him than just being in a fraternity. It meant joining a group of men who valued education and camaraderie, supporting each other through the ups and downs of college life, letting the good times roll, and sharing the experience of brotherhood. "I joined as a sophomore because some of my friends from the dorm were looking at going to recruitment. I had known a few of the brothers in the chapter and decided to take a look. After meeting young men like Joe Turner '86, Tommy Modica '85, Gary Carpenter '86, Paul Durette '86 and my eventual Big Brother Karl Alterman '86, I knew Sigma Alpha Epsilon was the place for me," he said. " the lion's roar Sigma Alpha Epsilon New Hampshire Beta Housing LLC 1856 Sheridan Rd. Evanston, IL 60201-3837 Address Service Requested " "New Hampshire Beta has been reborn." After initiation, Jay served as treasurer and social chairman for the fraternity. "I was lucky to have several leadership opportunities, teaching me how to make decisions as well as develop a sense of humor." After graduation, Jay worked for SAE National as an educational and leadership consultant. He visited chapters across the country to discuss recruitment, finance, scholarships, and leadership development. Jay believes his time working for the fraternity helped him develop as a professional and allowed him to develop a deep sense of pride for the organization on both a national and local level. "I was always very proud to tell everyone where I came come from. To me, there is much to admire about the many brothers who have passed through New Hampshire Beta." Some of Jay's favorite NHBE memories include pig roasts at the houseriding my purple bike at my pledge dance, 3 Stooges in the Pit on Saturday mornings, Happy Hours on Friday afternoons and of course "The Meal of the Century". "I have been fortunate to keep in contact with a number of alumni from the chapter." His advice for the undergraduate members is to hold a leadership position within the chapter, get involved with the national organization, reach out to alumni for guidance and support, and, most importantly, live the values of the True Gentleman and understand how they can shape your behavior as a man. Jay also encourages brothers who may have lost touch with the chapter to rekindle old friendships and connect with the chapter. "New Hampshire Beta has been reborn. This is the time to get back and involved because the undergraduates need us. A fraternity can make a difference in the lives of young men who are looking for a chance to grow and manage their own lives, while enhancing their chances to achieve personal and professional success. As alumni, we have an obligation to ensure that that opportunity is preserved for future brothers at UNH." Today, Jay works as a major account manager with F5 Networks, selling technology solutions to Fortune 100 customers. He resides in Chicago, Illinois and has two daughters, Caleigh and Olivia. In his spare time Jay enjoys playing guitar and is competitive in local hockey leagues. He sends a hearty Phi Alpha to all of his NHBE brothers.
