Over the last few years, with your support, Texas Alpha has seen astonishing growth at the university, becoming one of the premier fraternities on campus. Since the fall of 2010, we have marked improvements in all aspects of our fraternity, nearly tripling the size of our active brotherhood, increasing chapter and new member GPA, improving our standing within the Greek community and revitalizing our philanthropic efforts. ACADEMICS AND RECRUITMENT A TOP PRIORITY Our current chapter GPA is 3.176, an increase of seven spots from our previous ranking. The efforts of our rush captains this summer resulted in 35 new members joining our chapter. David Thomson '10 and his grandfather, Richard Thomson, M.D. '53, graduated together at the University of Texas' graduation ceremony in May. Dr. Thomson left for medical school in 1955 and never received his undergraduate degree. He was finally awarded it this year. Texas Alpha plans to improve its academic standing in the IFC by continuing to instill the importance of academics to our new members. "I want our new members to know they are here as a student first and foremost. Their parents sent them here to graduate from this university, and the fraternity is 100 percent here to help them achieve this goal," said Colin Peterson '11, fraternity educator. Texas Alpha's Phi Psi Fun Fest raised $5,000 for local Boys & Girls Clubs. PHILANTHROPY EFFORTS TAKE LOCAL ROOTS With the help of Brother David Sheehan '80, Texas Alpha has been coordinating our initiatives with The Boys and Girls Club of America. This spring, our chapter paired with Delta Delta Delta to host Phi Psi Fun Fest, raising more than $5,000 for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Austin, as well as providing a phenomenal experience for more than 150 kids. The past few years have seen remarkable growth at Texas Alpha. We would like to thank all of our alumni for their support and, as always, welcome any alumni to come by the house to visit.
