Alabama Gammas 2 A Dream Come True Epsilon Lambda Welcomes 136 New Members Ellen Fine '10 Accepts Internship at Tory Burch E llen Fine '10 immediately felt at home with Gamma Phi Beta during recruitment. As a student who wanted to continue her involvement from high school into her college years, she knew that Gamma Phi would be the best place for her. "The friends and people I have met are the most supportive and loving group of people. I would not be the person I am today without them." Ellen credits Epsilon Lambda for teaching her the values of communication, leadership, friendship, and keeping an open mind, among many other things. She will use all of these skills at her upcoming internship at Tory Burch. The following is Ellen's account of what she expects from the internship. "I am very excited about the opportunity. The University of Alabama's great fashion program prepares students for a fashion career after graduation. The program requires that students complete an internship with a fashion company during the fall of their senior year. We were given a list of companies to send our resumes to in order to set up interviews. We were also required to obtain two interviews on our own with other companies. I received feedback that a company wanted to meet with me during spring break of my junior year. I researched companies and prepared myself to interview." "The interview process for Tory Burch was tough, but also a great experience. It has always been a dream of mine to work for Tory Burch, so I heavily prepared for any questions that I could be asked. The questions definitely kept me on my toes during the in-person interview at their corporate office in the Chelsea area. After meeting with them, I had a phone interview with someone else on their team. I am interested in the wholesale division, so they set me up with an associate who works for Tory Burch's wholesale ready-to-wear and swimwear lines. A week later, I received a call offering me an opportunity to join their team. It is a great feeling knowing that I will be interning at Tory Burch. I am so excited to embark on this journey with such an amazing and respectable company." Sisters Focus on Core Values E psilon Lambda has been very active this semester. We started with a successful and positive recruitment, handing out bids to 136 women, including six legacies. We currently have more than 330 members. Aside from recruitment, we have been involved with the groundbreaking ceremony, Fall Crescent Classic, Parents' Weekend, football games, and Homecoming week. Our goals for this semester encompass our four core values: love, labor, learning and loyalty. Love Our goal related to our core value of love is to continue to show encouragement to each other and to foster an environment of success and positivity. We want each member to accomplish her goals academically and personally. Labor Katelyn Warner '12 and Lauren Hickcox '11 during recruitment. Our goal for labor includes executing a successful philanthropy event. We hosted a chili cook-off where we had a much larger attendance than we had expected. All proceeds went to our two philanthropic partners, Camp Fire and Girls on the Run. These proceeds will go toward scholarships for young girls so they have opportunities to learn how to be confident, strong, and to believe in themselves. Learning Our goal for learning is to raise our overall GPA by implementing a new scholarship plan that is driven by incentives and positive recognition to members who are doing well in their classes. Members will have their name placed in a jar for every "A" they receive on a paper or test. Each week at our chapter meeting, we draw one name and that person will get a prize. Sisters get ready for Homecoming. Loyalty Lastly, our goal for loyalty is to inspire the highest type of womanhood across campus and to increase Gamma Phi Beta's presence and involvement in campus activities. We encourage confidence and resiliency in our women to overcome challenges and embrace opportunities presented to them.
