It would become the genesis of K. Brunini. "I designed five collections when I lived in Sicily and in my spare time wrote a 178-page business plan," she explains. Those five collections, released from 1998-2003, would become her first at K. Brunini. In the interim, Brunini worked for Jessop's, a San Diego jewelry store, as their lead designer. She designed everything from America's Cup to custom bridal. "Working for a firm like Jessop's allowed me early on to really understand what multigenerational jewelry means," Brunini recalls with fondness. "Stones from a grandmother's ring incorporated into a new design creates a beautiful and sentimental history." Her art meets classic meets contemporary style is a great fusion of all these elements. Her historical and cultural perspectives on jewelry bring the world of bridal design into focus. "If you open it up to jewelry history, tradition becomes a different word," Brunini says, referring to her use of alternative metals and stones in a bridal ring. "The use of colored stones in bridal is actually more traditional than diamonds." Traditional or non-traditional, contemporary or classic, Brunini enjoys bridal design. Because, she explains, "Brides today are happy! It's a very celebratory piece of jewelry." No longer are brides tying the knot merely for financial or familial stability. "We have come a long way baby! Shouldn't the ring we wear everyday show it? Personally, I can't wait for the man engagement ring to gain popularity!" www.kbrunini.com 47 W W W.theWeddingringbook.CoM k. brunini Her art meets classic meets contemporary style is a great fusion of all these elements. d e s i g n e r pro f il e When the original Jessop's closed after 103 years in business, Brunini was "pushed from the nest" and learned how to fly on her own. However, her appreciation for legacy jewelry continues to be a strong part of Brunini's philosophy about bridal designs. She doesn't design for trends, but for the future.
