Lauren Pliskin '12 Elected Chapter President Sister Finds Community in AEPhi L auren Pliskin '12 graduated from a small private high school in Buffalo Grove, Ill. The 33 students in her class were a tight-knit group. Lauren wanted to find a similar sense of community while attending the University of Illinois. She felt that AEPhi aligned with her values and provided the community she was looking for. "Becoming an AEPhi was an obvious decision for me. There were 18 other sororities for me to choose from and I couldn't be prouder to wear my letters. I am lucky to be able to continue the Mu Chapter legacy." After joining the chapter, Lauren knew she wanted to serve in leadership positions. She is excited about being the next chapter president. "I want to be chapter president because I love AEPhi. I want to work to make it greater." She plans to help the chapter increase the cumulative GPA, increase participation in Greek events, and serve the community. "It's important to maintain a sense of oneness. To be successful, we must maintain our sisterly bond." As a high school student, Lauren was very involved in her community. She still volunteers when she visits home and is a director at the Model UN Conference. She is thankful for her experiences in AEPhi that helped develop her leadership skills. "AEPhi brings out the best version of me. Not a lot of people get this experience to grow as a person and have the support of sisters while we are figuring out who we are." Lauren is a political science major with a minor in leadership studies. After graduation, she plans to work in international politics. She can be reached at lauren.pliskin@gmail.com.
