The Oracle Alpha-Omicron zeta of Lambda Chi Alpha at indiana university / fall 2013 Fresh Paint and Fresh Perspectives Lambda Chis Celebrate Improvements to Chapter House and New Standards in Academics I t was a busy summer at Alpha-Omicron as we invested nearly $150,000 into a house that sorely needed it. At the same time we have some exciting news to report on the academic successes of the Chapter during last semester. Undergraduates Continue to Excel First and foremost, the Chapter GPA hit a new high of 3.2. This ranks our Chapter in the top third of all fraternities on campus and above the all-campus average. Our officers and recruitment chairmen stress academics and it is showing up in the results. Our membership is now more than 120 men and we initiated the largest spring class in the past two decades. The live-in numbers this year hit 69 members and is one of the largest occupations of Alpha-Omicron in over 20 years. Our undergraduate brothers should be congratulated on their accomplishments. House Corporation Updates Chapter House The House Corporation spent the summer remodeling nearly every area of the house. Included in this issue are pictures of the progress. We cleaned up the dining room with painting, ceiling repair, and the installation of curtains. The informal room has a new drop ceiling, new curtains, new carpeting, new furniture, and paint. In the foyer, we removed the old fire control system and installed a new more reliable system and updated all sprinklers. This control panel is now located in the house director's office. The formal room has new curtains, carpeting, and paint and we tuck-pointed, replaced lintels over windows, and waterproofed the brick to ensure no more leaks and that the brick lasts for the next 50 years. To also ensure we are meeting city and state fire codes and that we keep our undergraduates safe, we removed about half of the lofts that members have installed over the years and now supply bunks and bedding to each member. We will remove the remaining lofts next summer and replace those with bunk beds. This summer we also built four new single rooms for seniors. We believe it is key to have the seniors around for leadership and mentoring. Also providing leadership in the Chapter will be our live-in graduate advisor whose sole purpose is to advise and mentor the officers and membership. We hired a new House Director, Greg Wise, who managed this major remodel this year. At the same time, in order to improve our food quality, we hired a new chef with a strong resume that has already got the undergraduates noticing the upgrade. Updates to the ceiling and the carpet were part of the updates this summer. The foyer received new Lambda Chi artwork. Thank You, Loyal Alumni The House Corporation cannot thank alumni enough for their monetary support; this remodel we have completed over the past two years would not have been possible without those who give back to the Chapter. As we watch the Chapter succeed on campus, it is imperative that we keep the house updated to allow us to recruit the best men on campus. As a reminder, Homecoming is November 2. The Hoosiers play the Minnesota Golden Gophers at 3:30 p.m. EST. Please stop by the house to view the updates and meet the undergraduate brothers. If you have any questions about the festivities please contact Andrew Melvin '15, High Rho, at ankemelv@indiana.edu. I hope to see you there! Fraternally, Tony Drake '84 President, House Corporation (630) 336-8973 / tdrake@rcgdirect.com New paint and curtains were installed in the dining room this summer.
