S 1, 2010 Local businessman returns after playing boogie/blues reunion concert in Salisbury Beach, Mass. By Joanne Winer QUARTZSITE- Paul Winer, owner of Reader’s Oasis Bookstore, returned earlier this month from Salisbury Beach, Mass. where he performed for the first time in 34 years. He spend several summers playing at the clubs on the beach back in the early 70’s, and was very well known in the whole area around New England. Paul used to play under the stage name Sweet Pie, and his show was a one of a kind adult musical com- edy show featuring boogie woogie and blues music. He has played to thou- sands of people on the east coast, and over a million throughout his career in New England and in Canada. This is his first professional perfor- mance in 24 years. In fact, he had not played much piano since moving to Quartzsite. It was only in recent years that he has put a piano in the book- store and played at several events in Quartzsite for the last few years. It took him 185 hours to relearn his songs and music from back then, and the prac- tice really paid off at this concert. The Salisbury Beach Partnership is a group who wants to preserve Salis- bury Beach area, and has had several fundraisers to help them reach their goal. They also wanted to have a re- union concert of some of the famous acts that used to play at all the clubs along the beach back in the 70’s. when the beach was at its finest. When they talked to several people about their idea for a reunion concert, almost everyone they talked to men- tioned Sweet Pie, so they decided that they would try to find him and see if AMERICAN INDIAN JEWELRY & POTTERY .DM. Paul Winer returns from reunion concert he would be willing to do a show for them. They found him on the Inter- net, and called him at the bookstore inviting him to come back east. They paid for his flight and accomodations while he was there. When they asked him how much he would charge for a show, he said he was so honored to be remembered by so many people that he would do the show for nothing. Paul was accompanied on the show by his boyhood friend and first har- monica player, Will Perrone, who lives in Salem, Mass. Although the hotel he stayed at was just a short ways from the club, they insisted that he be carried there in an authentic antique London Cab. When he entered the club (the Surfside 5) the Rocky theme was play- ing, and he said he felt like a celebrity, especially after getting a 15 minute standing ovation before he even got to the stage. Many of his old friends from those days came from all over the area to see his show again, and there were over 600 people cheering him on throughout the whole show. He has been invited to go back again next summer to The Surfside 5. Sev- eral other places where he used to play have also indicated they would love to welcome him back. It looks like he may be doing more flying than he ever thought he would. He is also talking to Jay Leno about when he could be on his show. Jay met him when they were both playing in Vermont and even though they haven’t seen each other in 35 years, he still re- membered Paul and has invited him to call when he is ready to be on the show, hopefully next spring sometime. Paul said the whole experience has been great, and is so pleased and touched that he has been so fondly re- membered by so many. It is from the Greek word, ethikos and refers to custom and character. It also refers to aesthetics. When we say someone was really ugly about some- thing, we are really referring to that person’s poor character, which goes back to why the ancient Greeks felt that aesthetics and character were part of the same whole. “Ethics” as defined by Webster’s Dictionary are a “group of moral principles and set of values; principles of conduct”. In Christian terms it refers to the “study which deals with the moral duty of man”; (Webster’s Dictionary). In public service, ethics is paramount. Under the mantle of public service, Mayor Foster has leveled criminal ac- cusations and allegations at members of the Town Council, the Police Chief, See Ethics Page 12 LAPTOP CLEANING AND OPTIMIZING Virus and Malware removal, Optimization allows more system efficientancy and speed. “If I can’t fix it...you don’t pay!” Keep your system clean and protected. plus protection and optimization.
