After hearing the allegations presented against our Mayor Ed Foster, my heart sank. I, along with many others, had hoped that the newly elected mayor could work with the rest of the elected council members for the good of the town. As of press time, no decisions have been made. I can only hope that all of our council members do whatever is right for the whole town and for the future of Quartzsite. General Store Quartzsite FOR ALL YOUR GROCERY NEEDS! I’d like to thank my wonderful printing guru, David Fornoff, of the Yuma Sun, who is helping me with the project on page 19. You’ll find duplicate photos. One set was sent to the Yuma Sun for a new photo enhancing process and the other I “doctored” as usual. See if you can tell which is which. The theme on pages 18 and 19 is in cooperation with the Leave No Trace Program. After driving around just two of the LTVA areas of BLM lands, we no- ticed how folks really make themselves at home here. People have spent hours “decorating” their little spot in the desert. On page 18 are the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace Camping. We will reprint later in the season to remind campers. S 1, 2010 Editorial BY SHANANA “RAIN” GOLDEN-BEAR hours on compiling a comprehensive calendar for the upcoming yearlong cel- ebration. On Oct. 12th at 10am, the com- mittee invites all organizations, schools, churches, groups, clubs, to the first ever Event Calendar Planning Meeting. Watch for more details in the upcoming Desert Messenger. If you are a member of a club, organization, church, etc. the committee encourages you to begin planning your calendar for the next year. The goal of this meeting is to help our signature events and organizations coordinate their events and bring any new events to the table. The committee wants to know what events will be taking place in the upcom- ing year so there aren’t any scheduling conflicts and to have an accurate calendar to market worldwide. Proud Neighbors of Quartzsite is gearing up for the 2nd Annual Rockin’ in Quartzsite in October with a call to artists. Read more on page 13 about how to participate. There were over 40 volun- teers during last year’s events. On page 14 you can read about how volunteering benefits the volunteers! Quartzsite is full of wonderful folks who give of themselves throughout the whole year. Congratulations to all the awesome volunteers in town! Quartzsite Rocks and so do you! Don’t let yourself be held back by fear. A Medicine person once said, “Fear is not a good enough excuse!” We laughed, as if we had to come up with something better for an excuse? But it brought home the point, that fear is just a feeling, and we give it as much power as we choose. What will you choose? Fear or Love?
