Page 3 COMMITTED TO COMMUNITY Gary Taffet '88 on His Career and Involvement D uring recruitment, Gary Taffet '88 felt most welcome and respected by the brothers of SigEp. "Rutgers is a very large school and joining SigEp allowed me to scale down the size and to flourish, building lifetime friendships and allowing for my personal development." Gary enjoyed the brotherhood and camaraderie of New Jersey Beta. He had the opportunity to serve as house steward for three years, helping to ensure the chapter had the best meal plan on campus. He looked up to several brothers, including his Big Brother, Mike Nisenson '86, who was a strong role model. After joining SigEp, Gary was elected to the University Senate and was subsequently appointed president of the Rutgers Student Centers. As a senior, he was a member of Rutgers Eagleton undergraduate program, which led to his first job with the State Legislature with the New Jersey General Assembly. He later became the Woodbridge Chief of Staff and, in 2002, the Governor's Chief of Staff. When he left state government, he founded an insurance brokerage firm that merged with Acrisure in 2013. Gary is a managing member of Acrisure New Jersey, an international financial technology and insurance brokerage firm where he has been a leader in sales, business development, and distribution networks. He is proud to have helped establish the footprint of almost 1,000 employees in New Jersey and is grateful that the company encourages his philanthropic and community interests and allows him balance. Gary is a trustee for the New Jersey Hall of Fame and served on the New Jersey Legislative Reapportionment Commission last year. He is currently vice chairman of Middlesex College and has remained active with Rutgers over the years, recently being appointed to serve as a member of the Rutgers University Board of Governors. "The university has achieved incredible success, and my intention is to work diligently to strive for an even brighter Rutgers future," he shared. "I'm incredibly proud to have this opportunity to serve my alma mater." Gary has been married to his high school sweetheart, Cindy, a Rutgers Pharmacy graduate, for 31 years. They have two children, Matthew and Sarah, and reside in East Brunswick. The family tries to get to the Jersey Shore as much as possible. Gary is an avid Mets and Rutgers fan and sports collector, and he remains engaged in New Jersey governmental issues. You can connect with him at gtaffet@acrisure.com. This means the majority of their college experience has nothing to do with what they are learning behind a desk and everything to do with what they are learning in the world around them. Mental health, academic performance, relationships, and professional preparedness are all common issues men are faced with when they step foot on campus. These are issues that no one is meant to face alone. From lifelong friendships to professional preparedness and from developing us as leaders to fostering a mindset for service, SigEp is providing a member experience focused on changing the lives of the young men who choose to spend their 90 percent with SigEp.
