It started out with the VFW Riders and Brothers of the Rogue motorcycle groups doing the honor guard and Preacher John McFarland doing the Pledge and opening prayer. Mayor Norm Simpson read a very special letter from his son Norm who just retired after many years as a fi refi ghter. Norm and Oney Budge also presented a check for $1,000 to Chief Hess from the funds col- lected through the Art Guild who sells their items in his restaurant gift shop. Chief Hess then intro- duced the new cadet group of future fi refi ghters who did an awesome display of how fast they can get into 40 pounds of equipment they have to wear when called out for a fi re. It was pretty impressive! Heroes Appreciation Day The VFW and American Legion were both represented at the event, and VFW Auxiliary President Mar- cy spoke about the role of the aux- iliary to help the veterans, since both commanders were not avail- able. Several council members were there as well, including Lynda Gold- berg, Kari Amon, Starr Bearcat and Loretta Warner, and County Super- visor Duce Minor who also said a few words. Representatives of the Police and Fire Dept., as well as a retired sheriff from a K-9 unit and a member of the Border Patrol were also there. I want to thank everyone who came out to show their thanks and support for our Heroes. As we all gathered side by side around the circle where the Bells are, everyone had a chance to ring the two huge bells and held hands for the closing prayer. Special thanks to everyone who participated in the ceremony as well. | S R G-B By Marcy Urban On March 29, we will be honoring Vietnam War Veterans Day at 769.
