Page 3 Thank You to the Merritt Family W e extend our sincerest thanks for all the time, effort, and financial support the Merrit family has contributed to Texas Beta. The family has gone above and beyond to assist the Chapter in revamping our tailgate experience. They have two sons, Britton '26 and Grayson '24, within our brotherhood. Both are outstanding young men and true leaders within this Fraternity. This family has been exceptionally supportive, and we express our gratitude for everything you have done and continue to do for the Chapter. If you haven't been to a home game recently, we invite you to visit us next fall! What made Beta Theta Pi the right Fraternity for you? Who or what inspired you to join? My older brother, Byron LeFlore '58, was a Beta at UT in the late '50s. My visits to Beta before and during recruitment showed them to be real gentlemen. How did being a member of Beta Omicron help shape you as a person? I learned leadership, accountability, responsibility, team building, and how to study. What are some of your favorite memories from your undergraduate years? Intramurals, being alumni relations vice president, and serving in the Army ROTC … and meeting Betty, falling in love, and later being married. What are you most proud of in your career and family life? Being the Bank of America Chairman for South Texas and being married to Betty LeFlore for 50 years until her passing. We have two beautiful daughters with two wonderful granddaughters. What advice would you offer to undergraduate brothers? Try to be civil, courteous, and gentlemanly in all relationships. Always have someone to love, something to do, and something to look forward to. How have you kept up with Beta over the years? Do you keep in touch with fellow alumni? I have been active in the San Antonio Beta Alumni Association for 50 years, including as president and currently treasurer. I recently attended the General Convention in Dallas. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Reading, traveling (been across the U.S. and to four continents), visiting family and friends, and enjoying fine Cuban cigars. John lives in San Antonio, Texas, and can be reached at jleflore@1stig.com. ALWAYS SOMETHING TO DO A Word with John LeFlore '65 Memory and Our Mystic Shrine Colbert J. Glenn '50 June 26, 2017 Paul L.
