December 20, 2023 www.DesertMessenger.com 11 The Salvation Army happenings Our Annual Santa Event is Friday, December 22, 2023. Starts at 9:00AM to 1:00PM, here outside at Quartzsite Salvation Army. HELP REQUEST: Looks like we could use more volunteers for this event. We really need able bodied folks on Thursday the 21st for setup assistance. We will start just after we close at 1PM. We can also put volunteer Santa Elf helpers to work with assisting kids with toy selections at the various stations. Please call ASAP or come see me on or before Thursday if you would like to help. If you would like to assist with traffic management, please let me know, ASAP. Thanks so much. We ask that families remain in their vehicle until we signal you. The first station is picture with Santa and then the children will be escorted by TSA elves into Santa's Workshop area. Parents will watch as the chil- dren make their selections. We have been blessed with lots of toys. I will highlight the donors next issue as we still have toys coming to us. Penny from Parents as Teachers will also be here with an always fun activity packet for kids. A big shout out of appreciation to our volunteers Jan and Eileen that delivered Thanksgiving dinners to our local homebound folks to enjoy. We heard a lot of "thanks and "you made my day", comments. Thanks Miss Brenda and her awesome team at Coyote Fresh Foods. We had many very happy and appreciative folks. Our Angel Tree shoppers certainly earned their Angel wings again this year. We are so blessed with so many giving and thoughtful shoppers that year after year shop for those special needs children in our com- munity. We had several new angel shoppers this year also. We certain- ly couldn't do this without all your help. Jubilant Elf Jan is organizing packages and wrapping gifts with help from Sandi and Lois. Packages will be delivered and or picked up at the Salvation Army. Quartzsite Fire Department will assist as available. We are going to close the store Christmas week. We will reopen on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. We have been swamped with donations- a good thing, but we need to organize and reshuffle the store and porch area for the start of the 2024 sea- son. Thanks for understanding. Ur- gent assistance is always available with a phone call, just no shopping or donation drop-offs please. Late night donations encourage theft and often never make it into store. Call and special arrangements can be made. Thanks so much. Holly, our awesome clerk, extends her appreciation to those that bring flattened bags to us. It really helps her as she is so very busy at the register. Please continue to donate your un- needed eyeglasses, computer ink car- tridges, cell phones, as well as outdated prescription medications. We recycle all to the appropriate agencies. Don't forget our adult and child dia- per program is always available. This is a monthly program with a simple sign-up procedure. Please ask. We also have a large assortment of medical devices that are available on a loan-out basis with a refundable de- posit upon the item being returned. We continue to have free shoes, socks, and miscellaneous items out front of the store and a free clothing rack and food available inside each day. Please understand that our build- ing has no windows, no air exchange ventilation, our aisles are tight, and we have many senior volunteers with health concerns. We are asking for personal space of six feet (camel length) and recommending, not re- quiring, a face covering- which we provide, for both us and our amaz- ing shoppers. We appreciate your understanding. Let there be kindness at Christmas, for one and all. Let others know the dove of peace has come come to call Let others see that with you, Christmas can be kind Leave spoonsful of joyfulness for others to find. Distribute your smiles, let them float to those around, So when the smiles reaches them, happiness is found. Let there be understanding at Christmas this year Let others know that your forgiveness is now here. Let others see that with you, hate does not belong That with you, they will once more find hope and feel strong. Open your heart, and let them know that you care And that when tomorrow comes, you will still be there. ~Jenny Maryl. Merry Christmas, and blessings for a Happy New Year 2024 to all.
