Never has one word meant so many different things to so many people. Since we first get this word from the Bible, we should just look in the Bible to see what it really means. The apostle Paul explains it this way: 1 Corinthians 15:1-2 " Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word which I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain." The word Gospel in the original Greek language is simply 'Good News". Paul continues 1 Corinthians 15:3-5 and tells us what the 'Good News' is, " For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,". So, let's list things that are 'Good News'. # 1 Christ died for our sins, # 2 Christ was buried and most importantly, # 3 Christ arose. In case you missed it " 2 By this gospel you are saved,". Yes, this is the Good News. Good news because we all know we sin, Romans 3:23 " for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God". God came to rescue us with His Son, Jesus, 'The Good News'. But like so many things, this Good News comes with strings attached, "if you hold firmly to the word which I preached to you." Are you 'holding on' to the Gospel? Does this sound like Good News to You? Are you allowing the Gospel to 'Save Your Soul'? Dave Fiddament "Dave the Bible Reader" WHAT DOES THE WORLD SAY about the "Gospel"? WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY about the "Gospel"? "While we may not consider the way we talk to be "violent," words often lead to hurt and pain, whether for others or ourselves."~ Marshall B. Rosenberg,
