By Maggie Ross Several months ago we went on our fi rst OHV ride in the surround- ing Quartzsite area. We were very disappointed to fi nd several Trash sites out at Scadden Wash and be- hind Motel 8 and out in the Dome Rock area. It is a shame that folks can camp and enjoy our beautiful desert but cannot take their trash to the dump, which is free. I then decided to form a volun- teer group to deal with cleaning up these sites. We now have a Face- book page called Quartzsite Friends of the Sonoran Desert. Within fi ve days many folks joined the page and a partnership was formed with the Nomadic Management group. We contacted BLM and have been able to work with our local Ranger and have also been able to set up a Trash Finder site for folks to pin- point Trash areas and take photos so they can be cleaned up in the near future. We are pleased that folks have already located Scadden Wash and done some cleanup as well as several other locations that are now Trash free. BLM Rangers are working hard to remove a major dump site off of Dome Rock Road and has already removed campers that were illegally parked in a No Camping Area near Motel 8. We are making great strides with folks coming on board to volunteer each week. We met with the Town Manager, who gave us his blessing and hopes this will strengthen our relationship with BLM as well. We have received local donations and Desert Clean Up Planned support from Larry Lord and Curt Giebler, who has the shed business on Main Street. If you are interested in more infor- mation or wish to be part of our vol- unteer team join the Facebook Page "Quartzsite Friends of the Sonoran Desert." The cleanup is planned for Saturday, November 25th at 10 am. Details of location and updates will be posted in the Face- book group and would love to have you join us. Maggie Ross and Quartzsite Friends of the Sonoran Desert Christmas Lights for the whole family Starting Thursday, December 9th!
