H Thank You, Alumnae! The Corporation Board greatly appreciates everyone who helped Xi recruit more than 100 new members this year. Some donated their time, some participated in mock recruitment, and some donated funds that helped us prepare the house. All kinds of support make a difference! The new basement furniture, bought with donations from 2020-22, was delivered in time for summer renovations, so the board's interior designer staged the furniture and installed complementary wall decor. These efforts gave the chapter three beautiful spaces–dining room, basement, and library–for recruiting new members in August. New Security System Installed This summer, our security cameras were replaced with an IP (internet protocol) infrared system that is accessible by PC or smartphone. The new cameras provide a tremendous improvement in nighttime acuity. The board also replaced the entry keypads with an extended-life, battery-powered Wi-Fi system that responds to members' fobs and codes. Much-Needed Updates The board also reseeded the front lawn, installed a hallway vent to prevent frozen pipes in the fire suppression system, recaulked all showers, and replaced the primary cold-water shutoff valve in the basement. In 2024, we plan to repair or replace the front portico, which currently allows rainwater to drain down the front pillars, causing yearly damage. The bitterly cold winter and scorching summer also exposed a problem with ceiling insulation on the south wing. We will add insulation to minimize temperature swings in the sleeping dorm and decrease Xi's utility bills. Finally, we will replace the water-damaged shower flooring in the south wing. Join the House Corporation's Annual Meeting An eblast for our November 19 meeting has been sent with the Zoom link and slate of nominees for the 2023-25 term! We always appreciate your vote, your input, and your visits to Xi. W hen Caren Brandenburg, Zeta Delta, University of Tennessee at Martin '82 went through recruitment, she loved how personable and genuine the women of Sigma Kappa were. When she instantly connected with one member, she knew she had found her sisterhood. When Caren was an undergraduate, the chancellor's wife, who had not been a sorority member, served as chapter advisor and gave to the sorority unconditionally. Her involvement motivated Caren to pay it forward herself and give back to Sigma Kappa. Desire for Service Caren Brandenburg Finds It Rewarding to Give Back (Continued on page 2)
