I can still remember walking through the doors of Gamma Phi Beta at Kansas State University in 2012. I remember talking to a junior on the first day of school and feeling so surprised at the strong connection we immediately formed. The rest of recruitment passed by like a dream; I already knew I was bound for Gamma Phi Beta. On bid night, that same junior said, "I've known you would be a GPhi since that first day of recruitment." I've never stopped feeling that sense of connection throughout my collegiate years and beyond. In 2022, I served as the long-distance/virtual education advisor for Virginia Tech University. In August, I came across the opportunity to be a co-chapter advisor for Mizzou. After meeting with Collegiate Chapter Supervisor Alexa Crawford, we determined that with the assistance of our strong Advisory Board, I could step into the role with confidence. I still remember the strong mentors and advisors that I encountered during my time as a collegian; my hope is to serve as a role model like all those before me. My role thus far has been to serve as a mentor and guide for the executive council members. I attend AHC meetings monthly, executive and chapter meetings weekly, and other engagements as needed. The women of this chapter are collaborative with each other, creative in their ideas, open- minded to new possibilities, and respectful. They are dedicated to the well-being of Alpha Delta and to leaving it better than they found it. The women are warm, welcoming, and inviting, and this is reflected in our exemplary retention rates; our recruitment remains unmatched! I am so blessed to be able to mentor the collegians, and I can't wait to see what else we can accomplish together! In my three years at Kansas State, I earned a bachelor's degree in communication sciences and disorders. I continued my education at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri, where I received a master's degree in communication disorders. I now work as an elementary speech-language pathologist in Liberty, Missouri. Gamma Phi Beta is so much bigger than making new friends. It is a sisterhood that provides opportunities for networking, philanthropic involvement, connections, and lifelong learning. The chapter's core values continue to guide my life in so many ways. The leadership roles I held and the opportunities I had to represent our chapter at Convention have made my voice stronger when I enter a room. As a result, I've served on a Building Leadership Team for the last two years alongside five other staff members. I was awarded Support Staff of the Year and received a Missouri Educator of the Year award in my second year as an SLP. I currently reside in Kansas City close to family. In my spare time, I enjoy seeing my family and friends, traveling to visit friends from college, and reading. Gamma Phi Beta's philanthropic efforts strengthened my servant heart, and I continue to volunteer regularly. Whether it be at Special Olympics, a soup kitchen, or a local teacher giveaway event, I am there. As a final note, alumnae, reach out! You never know what opportunities are waiting for you. If you are looking for a long-term opportunity, you could become an advisor to a chapter officer. If you are thinking short-term, the women can host you and your experiences as a PACE presenter during chapter. I would be happy to discuss a variety of possibilities with you!
