OmicrOn Up OmicrOn Update date A PUBLICATION OF THE UT KAPPA ALPHA HOUSING CORPORATION OMICRON CHAPTER-THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN s FALL 2023 Luke Nettle '19 and the other Silver Spurs prepare to fire the cannon at each Longhorn touchdown. Pledge class 2020 gathers for a group photo before the Rose Ball Ceremony. T he past year has been nothing short of fantastic! This group of young men is one of the best I've had during my four years with KAO and my six years as a house dad. They are intelligent, hard-working, and respectful. Most importantly, they really care about the current and future success of the chapter. The freshmen and sophomores' increased involvement is a great example. The younger members want to be involved in future house improvement plans, philanthropy, and alumni outreach. They are always interested in learning more about how the chapter functions and how they can help in any way possible. There is a special focus on alumni outreach, with exciting plans to increase alumni involvement. I have also been so impressed with the respect these pledge classes have for the Manor. The house is in great condition—and the chapter works hard to keep it that way. This chapter curates a culture of superb academics and high standards. Omicron is known in Texas Greek life for having intelligent members committed to succeeding in school and striving for excellence after graduating. They have the third-highest GPA of Texas fraternities and are first nationally. One thing that stuck out to me this year was the multiple upperclassmen who gave time out of their weeks to review résumés and help underclassmen prepare to interview for investment banking, consulting, and commercial real estate positions. Some of the seniors even reached out to alumni to help. They are working to establish valuable pipelines to reputable companies, which is incredible. Parents talk about this all the time and are very impressed with the standards they have set. Furthermore, they have great chapter involvement in other organizations. We have KAs in Spurs, IFC, business fraternities, business organizations, medical clubs, and intramural sports. This shows that members are not only focused but also multifaceted. Finally, the thing that impresses me most is the leadership. President Mckennon Denny '20 has done a phenomenal job so far. He has made great changes to improve chapter involvement and has held everyone accountable to our high chapter standard. Secretary Pierce Winslow '20 has played a big role in increased communication and transparency as well as the development of a new website. There are so many strong leaders present in every single pledge class, which indicates a great future for Texas KA. It has truly been a blessing working with this chapter over the past three years, and I cannot wait to see what these men accomplish in the many semesters to come.
