The Secret Revela- tion of John was one of the most important texts unearthed from the Nag Hammadi Collection in 1945, a good 35 years after Eddy's passing. No- body knew of it in Eddy's day, and still few people know of it today. But the similarities between the two books are remarkable, and together, they open a new window on early Christian healing. Shirley Paulson, Ph.D., is the founder and principal producer of the website, Early Chris- tian Texts: The Bible and Beyond. In this class she will explain the basis behind this healing discovery. A doctor might say drinking wine is good for us, but coffee is not, or that an MRI is the best way to screen for cancer, basing his or her advice on varying reports from the medical field. With "information overload" on the rise, how can we distinguish the useful information and advice from the unnecessary? Learning what informa- tion is reliable and how that information can enhance our medical choices is an essential skill for a healthy life. Dr. Robert McNutt, author of Your Health, Your Decisions - How to Work with Your Doctor to Become a Knowledge-powered Pa- tient, will lead a two session class on how to ob- tain medical research and use it to make better healthcare decisions. In this introductory class, participants will learn to approach information and choices in a systematic, skeptical, but useful way. The first day we will learn how to evaluate research information and healthcare advice; on the second day we will examine two case studies involving healthcare decisions. Special Materials: Participants are required to purchase the book: Your Health, Your Deci- sions ($20 at Amazon) written by Dr. McNutt. INSTRUCTOR: Dr. Robert McNutt, M.D. DAY/DATE: Wednesdays, 10/18/23 - 10/25/23 (2) TIME: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM FORMAT: In-Person LOCATION: Drake COST: $25.00 OLLI Member $40.00 Non-OLLI Member WHAT'S THAT SMOKE? PRESCRIBED FIRE IN THE OZARKS DESCRIPTION: At times a cloud of smoke will float through town, or a patch of nearby for- est will look charred from a wildfire. Often, this is the result of a prescribed fire, a tool used by the U.S. Forest Service to manage the Ozark Na- tional Forest. This practice, which has been used for many years, will be fully explained in a pre- sentation by Timothy Nutley, a Forest Assistant Fire Management Officer, with the USDA. Learn why it is a good technique, how burn areas are selected and when and where these prescribed fires take place. DESCRIPTION: From the election of Bill Clin- ton as Democratic president to Sarah Sanders delivering the Republican response to President Joe Biden's State of the Union address. From the Arkansas Gazette editorial page to Fox News and Newsmax. From a Rockefeller's idea of reform to a Trumpians'. From the dominant local poli- tics of the Pink Tomato festival to the dominant national politics of a Koch think tank's retreat at a California resort. John Brummett will ponder this 50-plus-year adventure of the state turning
