From Aug. 9 to 11, you will find thousands of gently used, and some new, kids' items at a fraction of the retail cost. The con- signment sale strives to offer quality items - all items are visually inspected upon check-in to be sure that they are clean, without stains, and in working order. They organize all of their items on the sales floor (just like you would see in a store) so that it is easy to shop and find the sizes and items you are looking for. H&K also allows early shopping for our military and first responder families, as well as first-ti- me moms. For info visit https://www.hugsandkissesconsignment.com/ SATURDAY, AUGUST 12 CANOE HIKE CARVERS CREEK STATE PARK 2 p.m. Come to the first annual Ramen Eating Contest at Ichi Kaku! Five competitors will compete to finish a 20-pound bowl of ra- men for the title of Ramen Eating Champion of Fayetteville. The winning prize is $300 and a trophy. This event will be held at the first authentic Japanese street food restaurant to launch in Fayetteville by Chef Yohei of Takahama City in Aichi, Japan. This event is free to attend and watch. 10 a.m. & 11 a.m. Sometimes animals that look very differ- ent can still have some important things in common. In this class, preschoolers and their families will enjoy an animal-themed story time featuring the book "Different? Same!" by Heather Tekavec. Then you will look at shells, feathers, and claws and create an animal craft. This is for kids ages two to five with a parent or guardian. Please meet in the Children's Garden and come dressed to explore outside. The fee is $3 per child, plus regular membership or admission. Children younger than 2 may accompany an older sibling at no extra cost. As part of a partnership with local musicians on post, short musical performances will occur on a quarterly basis for library patrons in the afternoon at Spring Lake Library. TUESDAY, AUGUST 15 THURSDAY, AUGUST 10 FAYETTEVILLE NEXT KICKOFF 580 CROSS CREEK MALL 6 p.m. The Fayetteville Next Advisory Commission is set to host a kick-off event at the city's newest entertainment attraction, Main Event. This event invites 19 to 39-year-old residents to meet and engage with the Fayetteville Next Commissioners and each other. Along with these networking opportunities, attendees will give their input on the direction of Fayetteville Next, which helps the commission advise Fayetteville City Council on the needs of young adults living and working in the city. The Commission is providing a one- -hour Pizza Buffet with unlimited fountain drinks. Tickets are $15 and attendees must be 18 years old or older. Space is limited. Receive a hot dog, 16 oz. soda, one game, shoe rental and a backpack with school supplies (while supplies last). This is open to kids ages 5 to 16. Parents and siblings will not be left out. RAMEN EATING CONTEST 350 N EASTERN BLVD #200 6 p.m. You will be learning the basics of canoe- ing and then trying out new skills by maneuvering through the cypress swamp at this event from Carvers Creek State Park. This is a slow and calm paddling experience and great for beginners or for those who want to get a closer look at the cypress trees. There is a limit of 10 participants for this program. Par- ticipants must be at least 8 years old to participate. Registration is required. To register, email carvers.creek@ncparks.gov or call 910-436-4681 to reserve your spot. You will meet with a park ranger at the rain shelter. Please allow approxi- mately 15 minutes to walk from the parking lot to the rain shelter. SUNDAY, AUGUST 13 FRIDAY, AUGUST 11 ANIMAL CALLS LAKE RIM PARK 3 p.m. What sounds do animals make in the wild, and what do they mean? Plan a game of 'match the critter to its sound' and join in a chorus as we try and imitate these creatures. Then we will make our own animal sound device. This event is open for all ages and is $5.
