A t 23, Steve Burt '87 met his first mentor: a high-end life insurance expert. He taught Steve the importance of building a strong professional network at a young age, which helped Steve find success early in his career. "It wasn't just one lunch," Steve said of that mentorship. "This guy invested a lot of time in me over the years, meeting regularly and helping me think about my future and find opportunities for friends within my network." The lessons were pivotal in Steve's life and career, and he tries to give the same guidance and mentorship to all new hires while building on the leadership he learned from ΣAE. F I R S T S T E P S T O S U C C E S S Steve and his pledge brothers saw an opportunity at Indiana Gamma. At the time, it was a "house in transition:" a great group of brothers who happened to be more successful in parties than the classroom. Steve's class saw ΣAE's potential and committed to leading that growth; pledge class grades rose during their tenure from the high 20s to top five on campus. Serving as social chairman and chapter president boosted Steve's self-confidence as he learned to work with a large group of people. He remains close friends with many ΣAE brothers, doing business with some as well. All those skills helped prepare Steve for the mentorship side of his career. "It's something that I really enjoy, and I think I learned a lot of that from Indiana Gamma." G E T T I N G T O K N O W O T H E R S Steve has been with Kroll Investment Banking (formerly Duff and Phelps) for 30 years, with 25 and counting as the global head of mergers and acquisitions. The firm specializes in lower- to middle-market M&A, with deals generally between $50 million and $500 million. Members are actively involved in various community service initiatives and are making a significant impact across campus. We are also expanding our membership base and increasing the chapter's presence on campus through various events and activities. In addition to community involvement, Indiana Gamma has also seen improvements in its academic performance, with our members achieving higher GPAs than in previous years. Our chapter has established strong relations with the school, collaborating with administrators and faculty on various initiatives and events. This has resulted in increased recognition and support from the university, creating more opportunities for the fraternity to further its goals and positively impact the community. Leading the community outreach initiative is Philanthropy Chairman Andrew Amoroso '25. In recent weeks, the brothers of the chapter raised $1,000 toward the national fraternity campaign, "March to the Madness." In addition, we partnered with Be the Match to raise awareness for both blood and bone marrow transplants. Brothers volunteered their time to help raise awareness for the cause. I want to say a big thank-you for all the hard work our Little 500 racers put in over this past year. This effort was led by captain Luke Naas '25 and riders Bayden Lutz '25, Rhett Skvarna '26, and Lucas Lemme '26. As a chapter, we are looking forward to many years of success built on the framework of this year's team. As the semester has come to an end, we are looking to strongly represent ourselves at this year's national convention. We hope to see you all there!
