SIGMA CHI | PAGE 1
A
lpha Xi Chapter of Sigma Chi has a storied
tradition dating back to 1884. Our proud
history at the University of Kansas is filled with
accomplishment and honor and has influenced the
lives of more than 2,300 initiates. Many of our best
college memories can be traced back to our Sigma Chi
experience and our home at 1429 Tennessee.
Alpha Xi has played a significant role in the personal
and professional development of its members. While
many of our alumni have gone on to distinguish
themselves as leaders in their professions and
communities, the common bond of brotherhood,
including our shared principles and values, remains.
The lessons learned outside of the classroom and
through the Sigma Chi experience helped form the
men we are today.
For much of our tenure at KU, our chapter was a leader
on campus and within the Greek community. As you
may know, the undergraduates undoubtedly made
errors in judgment and struggled to hold one another to
expected Sigma Chi values and conduct guidelines set
by the fraternity and university. Because of this, Sigma
Chi Fraternity elected to resign the Alpha Xi Chapter
charter last summer. Following this decision, our alumni
leadership has been working hard to uncover the root
cause of the chapter's failure and subsequently address
these issues with a plan for the future.
As alumni of Alpha Xi, we have a responsibility to
provide future generations with the same opportunity
to grow as transformational leaders that we had. We
have a unique opportunity to start fresh, to revisit our
core values, and to create an environment where the
next generation of men can master the fundamental
purpose of Sigma Chi Fraternity through the principles
of friendship, justice, and learning. We ask you to
remember those we follow and to join your alumni
brothers in an effort we believe will secure this
legacy for years to come.
