This event will provide an overview on human trafficking, understanding about what it is (and is not), risk factors, and how to recognize and combat human trafficking. The goal is to give attendees in- formation to help keep our community safe. The event will include a victim video clip and a panel discussion with medical, law enforcement, and mental health professionals. This is a free event recommended for teenagers, parents, caregiv- ers, community based organizations, educators, and faith-based organizations. 4 p.m. See how many different species you can find in a 1 foot by 1 foot square and log them in iNaturalist for the City Nature Challenge. You might be surprised at how many things you can find once you take a closer look! This competition pits several American cities against each other to see who can document the most biodiversity on iNaturalist over a 4-day period. We're going up against many cities that are a lot bigger, but North Carolina's amazing biodiversity and the great urban wildlife we see every day can help the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sci- ences win! NATURE TALES: TERRIFIC TREES CAPE FEAR BOTANICAL GARDEN 11 a.m. A free, preschool story and nature time presented at Cape Fear Botanical Garden. This month's theme is Terrific Trees. The story will be provided by the Cumberland County Library. This program is de- signed for children ages 3-5, but all ages are welcome! A parent or guardian must stay with their child throughout the program. Children will learn fun concepts as they enjoy an interactive storytime, sing songs, as well as make a craft. TUESDAY, MAY 2 THURSDAY, APRIL 27 THE ILLUSION GILLIS HILL FARM 7:30 p.m. Faith, fantasy, and family feature most favo- rably in Sweet Tea Shakespeare's forthco- ming production of The Illusion. The play, in true Shakespearean fashion, is Pulitzer Prize winner Tony Kushner's free adapta- tion of 17th-century French playwright Pierre Corneille's L'Illusion Comique. The Illusion follows fretful father Pridamant, who, in frantic foraging for his forsaken son Clindor, finds himself a foil to Alcandre the Magician. Using theatrical features such as stock characters from commedia dell'arte, the story unfolds, showing us that though much of what we see in life may turn out, in fact, to be an illusion, the journey we go on when seeing it is real. It's an ideal night out with friends or family, where they'll find themselves enjoying a playscape of faith, fantasy, and family in a warm and hospitable environment. This de - monstration will focus on Introduction to Drum/Storytelling - a combination of introductory dances and drumming, teaching participants how to effectively use the drum and the power of storytelling.
