try these recipes Rise and shine Start your day with these grandma-approved breakfast treats Grandma Johnson's Scones Ingredients • 1 cup sour cream • 1 teaspoon baking soda • 4 cups all-purpose flour • 1 cup white sugar • 2 teaspoons baking powder • ¼ teaspoon cream of tartar • 1 teaspoon salt • 1 cup butter • 1 egg • 1 cup raisins (Optional) Directions 1. In a small bowl, blend the sour cream and baking soda, and set aside. 2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a large baking sheet. 3. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, cream of tartar, and salt. Cut in the butter. Stir the sour cream mixture and egg into the flour mixture until just moistened. Mix in the raisins. 4. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface, and knead briefly. Roll or pat dough into a 3/4 inch thick round. Cut into 12 wedges, and place them 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet. 5. Bake 12 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven, until golden brown on the bottom. Grandma Dalley's Honey Granola Store airtight in a covered container up to 2 weeks. Ingredients • 4 cups old-fashioned rolled oats • 2 cups coarsely chopped almonds • ¾ cup honey • ½ cup butter • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon • 1 pinch salt • 1 cup golden raisins Directions 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a baking sheet. 2. Mix oats and almonds in a large bowl. 3. Combine honey, butter, cinnamon, and salt in a saucepan; bring to a boil for 1 minute. Pour honey mixture over oat mixture; toss to coat. Spread onto the prepared baking sheet. 4. Bake in the preheated oven, stirring every 5 minutes, until granola is lightly browned, 15 to 20 minutes. Fold in raisins and bake for 2 more minutes. Cool and crumble. Grandma Sherrill's Bagels Ingredients • 9 cups all-purpose flour • 3 cups hot water • ¼ cup white sugar • 1 tablespoon dry yeast • 1 tablespoon salt Directions 1. Mix flour, hot water, sugar, yeast, and salt in a large bowl; transfer dough to a work surface and knead for 10 minutes. Place dough in a bowl and let rise for 15 minutes. 2. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease a baking sheet. 3. Form dough into 24 balls; punch a hole in the middle of each ball with a finger, creating a bagel shape. Place bagels on the prepared baking sheet; let rise for 20 minutes. 4. Bring a large pot of water to a boil; cook bagels, working in batches, in the boiling water, about 45 seconds per side. Place boiled bagels on a clean towel to drain. Return bagels to the baking sheet. 5. Bake in the preheated oven until cooked through and lightly browned, 30 to 35 minutes.
