SIGMA NEWS GAMMA PHI BETA AT THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS • SPRING 2023 Y our Sigma Chapter AHC has been hard at work planning and implemen ng much-needed updates at 1339 W. Campus Road. First, if you have driven by lately, you'll no ce big changes to our front lawn. It has received a total makeover courtesy of Schendel Lawn and Landscape. The giant boxwoods that once spanned the front porch have been removed. The overgrown burning bushes that blocked the sight line on either side of the lawn have been removed to allow for a more open look. Expect to see lots of beau ful color this spring with hydrangea, coneflowers, coral bells, and assorted hostas. Removing the old landscaping revealed the stately brick wall across the porch, and our historic chapter house is even more prominent on West Campus Road. This summer, we are focused on giving the bathroom at the back of the house a major renova on. We are excited to update the design and make this a func onal space for all live-in members and guests. The a ached copy room will be converted to a package delivery holding area with cubbies for the many deliveries received at the house each day. The third floor will receive the installa on of our pre-purchased LVT flooring. Last summer, we installed LVT on the second floor, and everyone is very happy with the result. Keeping the hallway carpet clean was a constant struggle; this new hard surface flooring has been a wonderful solu on. We are excited to announce that House Director Donna Hauser O'Neil '67 has agreed to serve in her role for another year! We are fortunate to have Donna, who is beloved by all our members. Lastly, a BIG congratula ons to our ac ve members for receiving the 1874 Award from Gamma Phi Beta Interna onal! Please read more about this notable achievement on page 3. In IIKE, Sigma Affiliated House Corpora on Board W e've covered a lot of AHC news and background in this Sigma News issue, but there are many more ways to offer your me and talents to our sisters! Help support the most important reason our members are in Lawrence—academics! INTERESTED? QUESTIONS? Please send an email to kugphiahc@gmail.com. We can't wait to hear from you! 1 2 3 Chapter Vision To emphasize the ideals of love, labor, learning, and loyalty within our chapter to foster an environment focused on sisterhood. Finalize a decision on live-in/live- out members so we can fulfill our responsibility of filling the chapter house. Reestablish the Loyalty Circle so that each member has a support team within the chapter to ensure belonging and inclusivity. Organize deadlines well ahead of me to ensure events happen as planned and on me. This way, we can be clear and confident in our decision making and can stay in good standing with the university and Interna onal Gamma Phi Beta. 2023 Chapter Goals HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?
