L iving in Tallahassee since graduating from FSU in 1981, I have witnessed and been inspired by the many Kappa Alpha KΔs who have given back to the Chapter. Your Chapter. Our Chapter. As the oldest sorority at FSU (and the second- oldest active KΔ Chapter in the country), alumnae support is vital. Kappa Alpha Chapter will be 119 this November; Kappa Delta Sorority will be 126 this October. Thank you for the financial, volunteer, and leadership support you have given through the decades. Serving as chairman of the National Kappa Delta Foundation for the past six years (and retiring this June), I am so proud of the support Kappa Alphas have given. While the foundation was created in 1981, Kappa Alphas have supported KΔ on the national level for over a century! The earliest recorded Kappa Alpha donor to national Kappa Delta is Eunice Rawls Long, a founding sister, in 1904. Joining Sister Eunice for 119 years, close to 800 Kappa Alpha members have contributed to Kappa Delta Sorority. Most of the gifts since the creation of the foundation have gone directly to fund scholarships for collegiate and alumnae members across the country. Today, unfortunately, a scholarship can be the only way too many young women can go to college or further their education. A KΔ scholarship can help eliminate the choice between paying for school and staying active in Kappa Delta. Kappa Alphas have given generously to the Chapter at FSU also. For decades, you have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars. Money that has funded several scholarships for our collegians, but has mostly provided for the necessary remodeling, refurbishing, and updating of 555 W. Jefferson Street—a home away from home for many. Pledge classes of 32 are now new member classes of 80-90 that require the sleeping capacity of 57 available today. Kappa Alphas have made a difference in our Kappa Alpha Chapter AND in Kappa Delta— and I know you'll continue to do so. Thank you.
