Always ink of KD 2 Congratulations to Becky Sperry Wells Scholarship Recipient Kiersten Connoly '21! E ach semester, the House Corporation honors the memory of our sister, Becky Sperry Wells '78, who passed away in 2015. Becky served as the Chapter Recruitment Advisor for more than 20 years. Using the honorable, beautiful standards from the Chapter KD Lady scholarship, an exceptional Kappa Alpha active sister who thrives academically and philanthropically and demonstrates first-class leadership skills receives a $1,000 scholarship. We are excited to award the spring 2023 scholarship to Kiersten Connoly '21! Kiersten is a junior studying marketing with a minor in psychology. She takes pride in her work ethic, which served her well as she took online courses for her first college semester while working two jobs to pay for it. Each summer she goes back home to work, and she is grateful for her upbringing and the Kappa Delta sisterhood for helping her find balance and growth. "I have made friendships that will last a lifetime and have been given opportunities that I never would have imagined for myself." Kiersten's leadership positions at Kappa Alpha have included checklist chairman and SET leader. She is also involved in recreational sports, Relay for Life, and various local charities. Girl Power in Tallahassee! Sisters Work with Girl Scouts and Other Philanthropies A t the end of the fall semester, Kappa Delta ranked fifth academically out of the 17 chapters on campus, obtaining a GPA of 3.49. We jumped up three spots, thanks to our ongoing efforts to keep members engaged in their academics! In January, we held our first date function, "Dreaming of KΔ." Nothing beats hanging out with your sisters in your pajamas and dancing the night away. The whole month of February, we worked alongside our local Girl Scout troops, hosting three cookie booth sales at the Chapter House to help build relationships with the girls in our community. We love instilling confidence and making long-lasting relationships with our local Girl Scouts! Additionally, we hosted our second annual golf tournament, "KΔ on the Greens." Through our efforts, we raised over $27,000 for PCAA and the Tallahassee Children's Home Society. Our new member class bonded while participating in Florida State University's annual Dance Marathon, which raises money for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. The class raised over $37,000 alone, making KΔ the top sorority for fundraising. On March 29, our KΔ Line Dance team competed to regain the title of champions. Last year, we placed second and raised the most money for the organization's beneficiaries. In mid-April, we welcomed Leadership Development Consultant Lianna Urbanowski to our Chapter House to meet with our members and experience a week in the life of a Kappa Alpha. On April 12, we held our annual Confidence is Key event with the Girl Scouts, giving them a guided tour of campus and handing out balloons with encouraging messages to students. We constantly aim to uplift others and leave an impact on the community around us. The women of Kappa Alpha Chapter are so very thankful for you all and cannot wait to share more exciting things as the year continues!
