I think it was brother Doug Scheibe '87 who told me once that "many hands make light work." In keeping with that, we have made some additions and a realignment on the AVC to keep all brothers fresh and engaged with their roles. I have moved from AVC Treasurer to AVC President. We are looking for my replacement, but in the meantime, I'm wearing both hats, with assistance from Steve Stoskopf '82. If you have interest in taking on the Treasurer role, please reach out to me directly. Joe Morgan '92 has moved from AVC President to AVC Secretary. Pat Pesci, IUP '73 continues as Vice President. Jerry Dixon '91 is a general board member with oversight on the facility. EG Herl '90 is a general board member with oversight on recruitment. Doug Gaumer '88 was added as a general board member. Rorry Pileggi, KSU Chi Omega '94 was added as parent representative (has three SigEp sons). Andrew Wimp, Emporia State '17 was added as BMP representative. Representatives from SigEp Headquarters serving as ex-officio members: Lucas Renz '18 as Chapter Counselor. Greg Pestinger '86, who is on the SigEp National Board of Directors, is assisting us with leadership development. The AVC has wrestled with many issues over the years, though we are currently focused on two items: • Continuing the campaign to raise funds for repayment of debt, house maintenance, scholarships, and new renovation projects to make the house more competitive on campus. • Expanding the connection of brothers to support the Balanced Man Program with more mentors. While we thank the brothers who pledged some $350,000, we still require more funding to fully address the needs of the Fraternity. An exciting and much-needed project, which was not addressed in 2004, is the renovation of the restrooms. The original restrooms were last touched in 1991, and the two smaller rooms were added in 2004. All these have regular use and are looking very tired. We enlisted the services of Charles "Skeeter" Renz '89 from Salina to put together some design renderings, which you can see here. In addition, you may recall the Zappa Deli as brought to life by Richard "Dick" Bergen '83. We would like to restore this room into an area for light studying and hanging out with brothers over a game of ping pong or pool. So much of being a SigEp is having fun, and Dick certainly took that to a different level. If that is something which you would want to support, consider a gift to the fraternity. We have secured some interim debt but are hoping that enough brothers will connect with the project and contribute by donating directly to the AVC (doesn't have restrictions and fees) or to our Residential Learning Community account with SigEp Education Foundation. Donations through this account support the academic portions of the house and are 100% tax deductible and are recorded with Headquarters as part of your total giving with the Fraternity. To donate through the Foundation, please check our new and improved Chapter website at kansasstate.sigep.org and click on the Residential Learning Community tile under the "Support Our Chapter" section. You can also make donations to support special projects like the restroom renovations by mailing your check directly to: Sigma Phi Epsilon Alumni Corp. P.O. Box 427 Manhattan, KS 66505 As you can imagine with your own residence, updated restrooms are one of the most important public areas within the Fraternity. We hope you choose to support the Fraternity and give generously. If everyone would give $1,000 we would knock this project and others out of the park. As the adoption of the Balanced Man Program starts its second year, I can tell you firsthand that the culture and climate of the Fraternity is changing. No longer is there a division between new member classes, but rather cohesiveness. In addition, the BMP provides a path for learning more about oneself and helping them grow throughout their college years. The BMP is a talking point for recruitment and separates SigEp from others. Why our Chapter has not embraced and adopted this in the past is beyond me, but now that we have several new faces on the AVC, we are making strides to make the SigEp experience better than ever. The last several years have brought many challenges, but Kansas Beta has survived, and we are advancing. Many alumni during the campaign told me they didn't know where the Greek system was going or if we would even be around. The Greek system is here to stay, and President Linton and Dr. Lane are bringing fraternities and sororities back under the campus umbrella. This tells me they fully understand the importance of the value we have for the college experience and how it impacts long-term donations to the KSU Foundation. Now is the time to reconnect with the place which had your heart during your formative years of college. Please consider contributing to our current needs. If you are interested in becoming a mentor to impact the life of a current SigEp undergraduate, please check out the "volunteer" link on our Chapter website at kansasstate. sigep.org/support-our-chapter/volunteer. You can also email me at dirkdaveline@gmail.com or Chapter Counselor Lucas Renz '18 at luke.renz27@gmail.com. Thanks for your support and love of Kansas Beta.
