GAMMA PHONE that we can incorporate new brothers with entirely different backgrounds, experiences, and ideas to share with our chapter environment." INTRAMURALS Unfortunately, the university did not have enough staffing to accommodate referees for our IFC leagues—but we were still able to sign up for leagues this winter, hosted by Lug. Our chapter will be competing in Lug basketball, football, and lacrosse. As a chapter, we would like to thank our alumni and national fraternity for their overwhelming support. We could not have what we have without you, and we are forever grateful for the opportunities you have given us. That place should feel like home for the next four years. Trenten Toliver '23 wanted to branch out from his hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio, and attend an out-of-state school. During his tour of Michigan State, he was attracted to the campus environment and knew it would be the place for him. Finding a place to belong at college is equally as important. As Trenten went through recruitment, he felt close to the brothers he spoke with at Sigma Alpha Epsilon and embraced their similarities. "I was also aware of the high representation Michigan Gamma has on campus, and I wanted to be a part of a great chapter," he shared. Trenten appreciates the friendships he has made as an undergraduate and is proud to help his brothers in need, as he knows they would do the same for him. During his time in Michigan Gamma, he has taken advantage of the opportunities provided to him, including learning how to work as a team on the house manager committee. Aside from ΣΑΕ, Trenten can be found participating in activities around campus. One of his favorite memories so far is when MSU beat Michigan. "The energy on campus after was unmatched—the day was electric." Trenten also gets involved outside the fraternity and recently joined Big Brothers Big Sisters, where he uses his wisdom and knowledge to inspire the younger generation. He encourages his brothers to get involved on campus as well. "I would advise the younger undergraduates to get involved because it allows you to grow and learn," he said. "Growth is a choice, and you cannot grow and change by staying in your comfort zone." Another piece of advice? "I would suggest picking one thing you are passionate about and be great at it." This growth mindset applies to more than one aspect of Trenten's life, and he has found his passion in running. He recently ran the Chicago Marathon—the first step in a life goal. "My brother signed up for the Indianapolis marathon and he told me to sign up for the half marathon," Trenten shared. "I told him, 'I will do the full marathon with you.' I ended up running my first marathon in Indianapolis at 2:58:48, qualified for Boston and ran a 3:07:27, and then Chicago at 3:00:01." Trenten hopes to complete all the major marathons: Boston, Chicago, New York, London, Berlin, and Tokyo. He shares that once a runner completes all six marathons, they receive a Six Star Medal, which only around 5,000 people in the world have earned. Another goal of Trenten's is to have a fulfilling career delivering babies into the world. He is majoring in kinesiology on the pre-med track, with interests in obstetrics and gynecology. He plans to take a gap year or two before attending medical school and would ultimately like to work in Austin, Texas.
