Early Birds 6:30pm. Main 7pm. Concessions Available The 41st Annual La Paz County Spelling Bee was held Febrary 16 in the Board of Supervisors' meet- ing room in Parker. Students had to compete in their School Spelling Bee to enter the County Spelling Bee. There were 14 students vying for the trophy and a spot on the stage of the State Spelling Bee to be held on March 18, 2023. Jacob Schliekelma of Ehrenberg Elementary School was the winner and Karliel Calvez of Salome Ele- mentary School placed second. There were fi ve rounds, and the winning word was "designer." Each of the contestants won their school's spelling bee and the right to appear in the county spelling bee. Students who represented their schools were: Bouse Elementary: Dakoetah Holden and Lizbeth Mar- tinez; Ehrenberg Elementary: Ja- cob Schliekelma and Lola Alaniz; Le Pera Elementary: Victor Short- ey Jr.; Salome Elementary: Reilly Saavedra and Karliel Calvez; Wal- lace Elementary: Aliyah Santiago and Damian Mazon; Wallace Ju- nior High: Danyka Rider and Carly King; Wenden Elementary: Mateo Alvarez and Brittny Soberanes; Parker Apostolic: Mia Carrillo and Allie Fisher. County School Superintendent Dru Waggoner thanked the La Paz County Board of Supervisors for the use of their meeting room and the certifi cates of achievement for each participant.
