Kinnick Scholarship. We interviewed 441 exceptional candidates from the applicant pool of 730 incoming freshman who had various experiences in academics, leadership positions, community service, and athletics. Our finalists consisted of a class of high academic achievement, including National Merit and State Scholars. Additionally, numerous team captains, student body and club presidents, and truly outstanding citizens in their community comprise the scholarship winners. The scholarship seeks to reward those who emulate Nile Kinnick's qualities: intellectual, moral, generous, and compassionate. It was difficult to narrow down such a qualified group of young men to 15 finalists, but in doing so, we are confident that the finalists are the best of the best. Our experience as Kinnick Scholarship coordinators has been eye-opening. It has helped show us that recruitment is about finding the qualities that exemplify those of the alumni who helped build Iowa Alpha from the ground up, especially the great Nile C. Kinnick '38. The Kinnick Scholarship process exposed us to talent that reinforced quality is better than quantity when inviting men to join our chapter. This summer showed us how strong the legacy of Nile C. Kinnick truly is, as we watched his name and story bring together well over 100 people to grant incoming freshmen with scholarships. Our Kinnick Scholarship Coordinators, Avery Hanson '21, Conor Wright '21, Michael Sullivan '21 led a successful summer culminating in this Awards Banquet Alumni John Greenwood '00, Dave Hansen '79, Jaison Marks '13, and Adam Parker '09 are all smiles as they reconnect at the Kinnick Scholarship Awards Banquet Congratulations to our Kinnick Scholarship Finalists! Over the course of the summer, we grew significantly in our interview skills, professionalism, and organizational skills. This summer taught us that communication is the key to successful teamwork, and though it was difficult at times, we were proud of the class that came together and the outcome of the scholarship brunch.
