Phi Gamma Delta University of Kansas P.O. Box 442100 Lawrence, KS 66044-2100 Address Service Requested T his very simple statement from a Phi Gam author, business consultant, and motivational speaker that clearly sums up Pi Deuteron's current path to success. As we enter our second year under a graduate trusteeship, setting the right expectations and holding Brothers accountable has been the key to our paradigm shift. In business and with our Chapter, this simple statement has been the catalyst for change. As you read this issue of FIJI Jayhawker, you will see that we've already notched several critical accomplishments and passed some key milestones. First, 24 new members were initiated on September 10 th . Second, Pi Deuteron has started as a Beta Chapter for the new Built to Lead Member Development Program. Third, through eight different funds, the Chapter has awarded more than $60,000 in scholarships to Undergraduate Brothers in 2022. This includes a new series of David Morris Scholarships for most improvement in GPA, for attendance at Fraternity leadership retreats during the past year, and for taking active roles in graduate relations and campus leadership. Plus, Pi Deuteron celebrated our 141 st year as a Chapter with a successful Norris Pig Dinner. In fact, Pi Deuteron is the sixth-longest continuously operational Chapter in our Fraternity. A proud accomplishment that was almost lost in the fall of 2021. As we enter the fall 2022 semester, the momentum has shifted to our side as Purple Legionnaire Clark Conover, Iowa State '93 has developed trust and respect with the Chapter. The House Corporation Board remains in place as the landlord and owner of the property. With Brian Johnston '87 as President, along with five other highly engaged members, the Board is also discussing plans for needed improvements on the second and third floors during summer 2023. A rejuvenated Board of Chapter Advisors (BCA) has drawn together 14 Graduate Brothers, plus one representative of the undergraduate Chapter. With Jim Bloom '80 leading as the BCA President and Chairmen, and working closely with Section Leader Dave Schreck, Kansas State '69, BCA members are striving to offer one-on-one guidance and support to cabinet officers and committee chairmen. BCA members will also work to keep the lines of communication open between Graduate Brothers and Undergraduate Brothers in the Chapter. Yes, we also welcome other Graduate Brothers to join us on this journey. BCA has openings for advisors to the Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Historian, Social Committee, Intramurals Committee, and Graduate Relations Committee. Finally, while Pi Deuteron remains on suspension at the University of Kansas and on Graduate Trustee status with the International Fraternity, the six- member Graduate Trusteeship will provide oversight. Across the three groups, plus the Purple Legionnaire and the Section Leader, a total of 28 dedicated Graduate Brothers have volunteered their time to assist with the rebuilding of Pi Deuteron. They all share the same goal of developing courageous leaders at 1540 Louisiana Street. Please join us in thanking them all for their dedication and actions, exemplifying that our Fraternity is "Not for College Days Alone." As Brother Blanchard so eloquently stated, "None of us is as smart as all of us." Pi Deuteron will succeed as a collective of Graduate and Undergraduate Brothers. Mighty Proud to be a FIJI!
