The guys I met were really cool, and I knew I wanted to become a part of something so special." –Simon Story '26 "I wanted to be a part of something bigger than myself. FIJI felt like a perfect place for me to do that." –Jack Gustafson '25 W hen a young man joins a Fraternity, he accepts the duty to contribute to his new Brotherhood. As Matt Moore '13 saw his sibling Joseph Moore '11 join Phi Gamma Delta and take up leadership, Matt immediately knew that FIJI was the perfect fit for him too. Undergoing FIJI recruitment, Matt prepared himself for new responsibilities while making fond memories with Brothers. "The craziness is where some of the core memories were formed," he mentioned when thinking back on the shenanigans of late nights in the house. Matt took over as Chapter President after his brother's term ended and emphasized a successful environment within Pi Deuteron. "You realize you're a part of something bigger than yourself; you're expected to be there and to work hard," Matt said. He strove to make the house a better place, and the occasional tough times taught Matt invaluable lessons that lasted long after college. His work with IFC, Rock Chalk Revue, and other organizations in college also contributed to his professional development. Through good study habits promoted by the Fraternity, Matt graduated in 2013 and went on to med school for internal medicine. He recognized the same feeling of being a part of something greater, and his disciplined mindset developed in Phi Gamma Delta helps Matt in his residency today. Matt credits David Dondlinger '10, Rusty Gallagher '10, and Patrick Haverty '10 for rushing my brother, "Without them, I may not have been a Jayhawk." Matt is proud that his younger brother, Stephen Moore '16, followed their footsteps and joined Pi Deuteron. As alumni, Matt and friends keep in touch daily through calls and texts, and they've even been part of one another's weddings. "If it weren't for that pledge class, I might have gone to a different university, and my life would've been completely different," Matt said. Though Matt had many responsibilities as President, his Fraternal experience and values will live on for a lifetime.
