3 E ta Chapter of Sigma Chi recently celebrated its 165th anniversary at Ole Miss. On October 8, we welcomed our fall 2022 new members to the chapter. Brothers Clay Marlin '23 and Ben Bufffington '23, who served as magisters, did a fantastic job educating the pledges in the history and traditions of Sigma Chi. This fall marks the first time that the actives have been able to live in the recently renovated chapter house. Forty-one brothers are living in the dorms and love it. Thanks to leadership from Chapter Advisor Tonquin Stovall '90 and Housing Corporation President Doug Boone '85, the house has begun to take shape and regain the energy lost during COVID-19 and construction. We are also extremely fortunate to have found Nancy McRight to take over the role of house director. Mama Nancy is deeply devoted to helping the chapter and has assisted numerous brothers with issues, from illnesses to meal planning. She brings a vibrant energy to the house and takes care of us, and we are so grateful for her. This past spring, Eta Chapter lost one of its most beloved members, Thomas Mayo '23. The Mayo family and the William Magee Center decided to open a lab in honor of Thomas dedicated to helping students who struggle with addiction. We are proud to announce that, over the next five years, our chapter will contribute $50,000 toward the lab. In addition to this pledge, a portion of the funds raised during our annual Derby Days will go to the Magee Center in support of students who face similar struggles to Thomas. Lastly, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the alumni, parents, and friends who have helped the chapter over the past year. A special thank-you goes to Advisors Marc Mercier '98, Dodds Dehmer '95, Pat Brown '82, Michael Greer '16, and Tonquin Stovall '90. Their involvement has been extraordinary and their wisdom much needed. We also appreciate all alumni who attended or helped with initiation, as it is a testament to how much Sigma Chi means to them. We look forward to sustaining the success of Eta Chapter at the University of Mississippi in the months to come.
