T7 BY MICHELLE ROSE TV Media C reepy cookies, spooky cakes and frighteningly good desserts — Food Network has been Halloween Central for over a month now, or, more accurately, ever since its flagship "Halloween Bak- ing Championship" competi- tion kicked off its new season on Sept. 12. As the weeks since then passed, other seasonal series and specials — such as "Hal- loween Wars," "Outrageous Pumpkins," "Halloween Cook- ie Challenge" and a special- themed installment of "The Big Bake" — were also added to the prime time lineup. One more special is set to debut this week. "Kids Baking Champion- ship: Trick or Eat" is sched- uled to air Monday, Oct. 17, on Food Network and will also be available to stream on discov- ery+. The one-hour special is an offshoot of the popular "Kids Baking Championship" series, and it's become some- what of an annual tradition to feature a Halloween-themed, mini all-stars edition. In "Kids Baking Champion- ship: Trick or Eat," four kid bakers from the previous sea- son return to the kitchen to battle once more. The kitchen has been transformed into "a spooky Halloween haunt" (per Food Network) where host Duff Goldman and fellow judge Maneet Chauhan have prepared a new challenge: cre- ating a Halloween Mask Pie using ingredients (largely can- dy) the bakers collect by trick- or-treating. If you've ever used Hallow- een candy to bake up some treats, you'd think the task would be a pretty easy one, but the synopsis from Food Network teases "a sudden, shocking twist." Whoever im- presses the judges the most will be awarded a $10,000 prize package consisting of baking tools and equipment. What kind of tools and equipment? You'll have to tune in to Monday's one-hour spe- cial to find out, but the winner of last year's "Oh My Gourd!" special walked away with a blast chiller. "Kids Baking Champion- ship: Trick or Eat" is very much family-friendly fare, and that's reflected in its early time-slot in the Oct. 17 lineup. If you missed the aforemen- tioned "Oh My Gourd!" edi- tion, you're in luck: that spe- cial is scheduled to air again the following week, Sunday, Oct. 23.
