T8 WHATS UP! September 25 - October 1, 2022 BY RAYE SMITH TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON DISNEY+ "Hocus Pocus 2" (2022) Grab your popcorn and hide away the children for the Friday, Sept. 30, premiere of "Hocus Po- cus 2," the haunting new sequel to the 1993 Halloween classic. It's been 29 years since the Black Flame Candle has been lit, and now that it has, the three resur- rected 17th-century sister witches are back in modern-day Salem, Massachusetts, looking for revenge. Now, it's up to high schoolers Becca (Whitney Peak, "Chilling Adventures of Sabri- na") and Izzy (Belissa Escobedo, "American Horror Stories"), who accidentally conjured the Sanderson Sisters, along with their friend Cassie (Lilia Buck- ingham, "Crown Lake"), to fig- ure out how to stop the child- hungry witches from wreaking havoc on the world. Bringing back their special brand of co- medic mayhem, Bette Midler ("The First Wives Club," 1996), Sarah Jessica Parker ("Sex and the City") and Kathy Najimy ("Sister Act," 1992) return to their roles as the delightfully wicked Sanderson sisters, Win- ifred, Sarah and Mary. Directed by Anne Fletcher ("27 Dresses," 2008) and written by Jen D'Angelo ("Workaholics"), the film also stars Doug Jones ("The Shape of Water," 2017), Hannah Waddingham ("Ted Lasso"), Tony Hale ("Arrested Develop- ment"), Sam Richardson ("Veep"), Taylor Henderson ("Earwig and the Witch," 2020), Juju Journey Brener ("Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs," 2019) and new talent Nina Kitchen. WHAT'S NEW ON NETFLIX "Blonde" (2022) Dive into the life of one of Hol- lywood's greatest icons when the new biographical, psycho- logical drama film "Blonde" premieres Wednesday, Sept. 28, on Netflix. Based on the bio- graphical fiction novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates, "Blonde" is a bold rei- magining of the life of legend- ary Hollywood star Marilyn Monroe (portrayed in the film by Anna de Armas, "Knives Out," 2019), looking at the di- vide between her private life and her public persona. From her volatile childhood all the way through her rise to star- dom, the film blurs the lines be- tween fact and fiction to bring the unforgettable woman to life. Written for the screen and directed by Andrew Dominik ("Chopper," 2000), the film also stars Bobby Cannavale ("Nine Perfect Strangers"), Adrien Brody ("The Grand Bu- dapest Hotel," 2014), Julianne Nicholson ("August: Osage County," 2013), Xavier Samuel ("Elvis," 2022), Evan Williams ("Versailles"), Lucy DeVito ("Deadbeat"), Garrett Dilla- hunt ("Fear the Walking Dead"), Sara Paxton ("The Inn- keepers," 2011) and Scoot Mc- Nairy ("Argo," 2012). "Blonde" comes from producers Dede Gardner ("Moonlight," 2016), Jeremy Kleiner ("If Beale Street Could Talk," 2018), Tracey Landon ("Sextuplets," 2019), Brad Pitt ("Moneyball," 2011) and Scott Robertson ("Ameri- can Crime Story"). "Entergalactic" Grammy-winning hip-hop art- ist Scott "Kid Cudi" Mescudi ("Don't Look Up," 2021) teams up with powerhouse writer/ producer Kenya Barris ("Black- ish") to bring audiences the new television streaming spe- cial "Entergalactic," premiering Friday, Sept. 30, on Netflix. This computer-animated story fol- lows a charming, stylish young artist named Jabari (voiced by Mescudi) as he attempts to bal- ance love and success in his budding career in New York City. One aspiration may just lead to another when Jabari meets his new neighbor, a pho- tographer and "it girl" named Meadow (Jessica Williams, "Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore," 2022), result- ing in an explosion of art, music and fashion as Jabari works to make his dreams a reality. Writ- ten by Mescudi, "Entergalactic" features an all-star cast includ- ing Timothée Chalamet ("Dune," 2021), musical artist Ty Dolla $ign ("Insecure"), Laura Harrier ("Spider-Man: Homecoming," 2017), Vanessa Hudgens ("tick... tick... Known to be the most brilliant and fearless defense attorney in Los Angeles, Jax Stewart (Emayatzy Corinealdi, "Hand of God") plays by her own set of rules, bucking the justice system whenever she can if it means getting results. While those around her may judge her for her wild interpre- tation of the law and question- able ethics, Jax often finds them changing their tune as soon as her unique skills are needed.
