Read Desert MESSENGER ONLINE @ DesertMessengerOnline.com By Joanne Winer The annual ceremony to remember those who lost their lives in the di- sasters on September 11, 2001 was held Sunday, 9/11 at the Heroes Bell Gardens in Celia's Rainbow Gardens in Quartzsite Town park. VFW Post 769 Commander Wendt showed off the new insignia plaques for all six branches of the military that had just been added a few days before the ceremony. More will be added to the monuments as they are fi nished. The Salvation Army also held fundraising for some plaques for the Fire Departments and Law Enforcement. Thanks to all the volunteers and cus- tomers who helped Lee-Ann with her fundraising!! More fundraiers will be done to get the rest of the plaques for all the mon- uments. They will be added later when more are ready. If you old like to donate towards these plus for our heroes please contact Joanne at 928- 662-8592 or stop by the Readers Oasis Bookstore. Special thanks to the Brotherhood of the Rogue Riders who made up the motorcycle honor guard for opening the ceremony and to the Junior Hon- or Guard for their participation. Special thanks also to Nicci Collier and Parks Dept staff for the table and chairs and Lon for mounting the plaques. We are hoping to have all the monunent's "dressed" by next Heroes Appreciation Day on the fi rst Sat- urday of March 2023. Thank you to Loretto Warner, Vice Mayor for her comments and thanks to everyone who suffered the heat to help us honor and remember our fel- low countrymen and women who lost their lives on that day that should never be forgotten.
