WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM SEPTEMBER 7 - 13, 2022 UCW 3 SEPTEMBER 17 5TH ANNUAL HBCU COLLEGE FAIR SMITH RECREATION CENTER SEABROOK PARK Beta Chi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. will be hosting the 5th Annual Historically Black Colleges and Universities College Fair. There will be representatives from Fayetteville State University, North Carolina Central University, and North Carolina A&T, just to name a few. There will also be several from out of state, such as Grambling State University, South Carolina State and Tuske- gee University. The military services, Job Corps, fire department, police department, sheriff's department, Federal Bureau of Investigations and others will be recruiting. There will be several non-profit organizations, including fraternities and sororities, presenting their scholarship opportu- nities and how to apply for them. FOURTH FRIDAY DOWNTOWN FAYETTEVILLE With music, dance, food and tradi- tional Latin products, the 4th Friday Fiesta Latina celebrates diversity and inclusion, honoring Hispanic culture. The Cool Spring Downtown District's 4th Friday in Downtown Fayetteville will partner with Latinos United for Progress and the Arts Council of Fayetteville. In addition to performances and shows, food trucks, trolley rides, stores, restaurants, and other entertainment, there will be more than 50 vendors and so much more fun. SEABROOK AUDITORIUM Fayetteville Dogwood Festival is con- tinuing a tradition with the 24th Annual Miss Fayetteville Dogwood Festival Pageant! The program is designed to be an excellent vehicle for advancing contestants' personal development and lifelong goals. Join a history of wonderful and talented young women and ladies who have participated in our community tradition. Tickets are $20. Children 5 and under do not need a ticket to attend the 6 p.m. event. INTERNATIONAL FOLK FESTIVAL DOWNTOWN FAYETTEVILLE The longest running multicultural fes- tival in the region brings communities together each year to celebrate the richness of our diverse heritage as one community. Experience the awe-inspiring cultural artistry and cuisines of our nations while celebrating their heritage through our love and appre- ciation for the arts. Now in its 44th year, the International Folk Festival continues to impact the cultural arts sector by providing quality, cultural- enriched programming. It serves as a platform for the most innovative and skillful visual and performing artists from around the world to connect with broader audiences and display their talents across many disciplines and art forms. SEPTEMBER 23 - 25 SEPTEMBER 17 VICTORIAN CAROLINA DAY CAPE FEAR HISTORICAL COMPLEX Go back in time to the turn of the 20th Century and experience life in North Carolina towns like Fayetteville. Visit the Museum of the Cape Fear and 1897 Poe House to learn about the culture and daily life in the Victorian era. Create popular Victorian crafts, learn about period food and cus- toms, play games that children played over 100 years ago, and so much more. They will be joined by community partners: Fayetteville State Uni- versity, The North Carolina Civil War & Reconstruction History Center, and Aycock Birthplace State Historic Site. The event is free thanks to grant funding from the Arts Council of Fayetteville. SEPTEMBER 19 SISTA SOUL FEST SPRING LAKE REC. CENTER Aje Noire Creations has the amaz- ing honor to host Sista Soul Fest that was started in Des Moines, Iowa by a phenomenal group of women called SiStars Girl Talk. The SiStars Girl Talk mission is to shift the experiences of women mentally, spiritually and emotionally. We transform ourselves with our own gifts and experiences. What better way to celebrate the local women-owned businesses than to bring a thriving event to North Carolina. The Sista Soul Fest purpose is to create a space for women to offer/sell/showcase their talents and businesses. It also allows women to unite as sisters to network and help build each other up as Queens should, especially women of color. TAKE A CHILD OUTSIDE WEEK CAPE FEAR BOTANICAL GARDEN Visit the Garden any time between September 24 and October 2 to par- ticipate in Take a Child Outside Week. The Garden will have twenty-five fun outside activities listed on signs throughout the Garden. Complete activi- ties like lowering the bucket on the farmhouse well, taking a selfie with a Venus Fly Trap, finding an animal track, or hopping like a frog. Find and check off at least 10 activities to earn a prize in the Gift Shop. This event is included with regular membership or admission. SEPTEMBER 24 - OCTOBER 2 SEPTEMBER 28 HALLOWEEN SIP AND PAINT H8TERS This month you get to choose which painting you want to paint! Come out for a fun and relaxing evening with your friends to paint 'Spooky Couple' or 'Halloween Night'. The $35 tick- et includes: all supplies, pre-traced 11 x 14 canvas, instruction, and your first drink. Beginner painters are welcome and encouraged. There will also be door prizes and a giveaway. Feel free to arrive about 20 minutes early, relax and order from the delicious inspired Cajun food menu. You are also welcome to order food and eat as you paint. This is a Pre-Pay event.
