Always Room for Improvement Always Room for Improvement BROTHERS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES W e kicked off this past year with a short brotherhood work weekend. Our house manager, Nick Bingenheimer '23 (Elmhurst, Ill.), organized a deep clean of the house for a fresh start to the year. We also made small improvements around the house, including an updated lock on the kitchen door, new curtains for common spaces, new shades for rooms, and a new mural in the basement, courtesy of our spring 2022 historian, Andrew Beusse '23 (Bethesda, Md.). Events at the house have continued to be a massive success; over the year, we hosted Alpha Omega Epsilon, Phi Sigma Rho, and Phi Mu at various themed events. In addition to small mixers with other organizations, we also held successful blacklight and room parties. Vice Chief Engineer Matthew Lotarski '23 (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) also organized a reverse career fair at the house along with several events to improve our brothers' professional development. Lucas Zazcek '23 leads a rafting crew in Boise, Idaho, during an internship retreat. Lucas interned at Micron Technologies this summer. Preparing for a Semester of Success Alumni Focus on Maintaining the Delta Chapter House A s the fall season approaches, I look back on our accomplishments over the summer and look forward to another semester of brotherhood, camaraderie, and academic excellence. Alumni officer elections were held during the virtual annual meeting in June. Brothers Matthew Braun '94, Patrick Cox '01, Jeff Schneider '78, Mike Rohan '93, and Dino Tsoukatos '96 were reelected to the offices of president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, and alumni relations chairman, respectively. We extend our thanks to Brother Daniel McGovern '15 for five years of service as active relations chairman and wish him well in his new endeavors in Texas. Congratulations to Brother Shyam Upadhyay '22 on his hard- fought campaign to succeed Brother McGovern. The improvements to the house have resulted in a significant increase to the assessed value of the property. Based on this year's assessment, property taxes due next year will be more than double this year's levy. During the summer, Brothers Cox and Rohan, along with Brother Jeffrey Leesman '03, our renovation project manager, worked through some lingering issues with the curtains, air conditioning, and dishwashing system. Based on our experience last winter, we are looking into adding several supplemental electric heaters on the first floor. The combination of these expected and unexpected expenses has delayed completion of several remaining minor improvements, including replacement of several old windows and repairs to the front porch. Your continued commitment to capital campaign pledges and donations to the general fund helps us meet these financial challenges while maintaining costs for in-house living below the university average for private housing. The fall quarterly meeting will be held in conjunction with Homecoming festivities. Our traditional schedule includes the Friday Homecoming Parade and an evening meet-and-greet, Saturday morning brunch/tailgate, Illini football (11 a.m. Kickoff), Saturday post-game dinner, Sunday morning active/alumni flag football game, and the alumni meeting. If you haven't had a chance to see the improvements at the house, the weekend of October 14-16 is a great time to do so. I hope to see you then.
