Strengthening Bonds and Learning to Lead T his past semester, SigEp's Indiana Alpha Chapter made groundbreaking progress. At the start of the semester, Indiana Alpha sent brothers to Purdue's Meet the Greeks, which would start the process of recruiting five new members. Two weeks later, Indiana Alpha's executive board ventured off to the Carlson Leadership Academy in Chicago, where the brothers learned about the true potential their positions have in the fraternity. The executive board then distributed this knowledge to their brothers on Indiana Alpha's first ski weekend since the pandemic. During this weekend, the brothers skied through the mountains at Perfect North and laughed the nights away in Indianapolis. Afterward, Indiana Alpha took multiple trips to Almost Home Animal Shelter to provide loving cats and dogs with the resources they need. As winter began to fade, the brothers gathered for Super Bowl LVI, where many of SigEp's Bengals fans were met with disappointment as the Los Angeles Rams scored a last-minute, game-winning touchdown to become Super Bowl champions. Throughout the semester, SigEp performed multiple Sigma and Phi rituals to teach brothers the lessons and values of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. We also made our soccer skills known on campus by competing in our first intramural soccer league and hosting our first SigEp Soccer Tournament for philanthropy. As academic stresses began to rise, our brothers began study sessions in the library to build a sense of camaraderie and help brothers in need. To decrease our brothers' stress, we also had pool nights in Purdue's Memorial Union to give brothers a chance to laugh and bond together. During April, SigEp hosted SigEp Bowl, a football competition among brothers. As spring rolled upon West Lafayette, SigEp hosted its first formal in five years. SigEp alumnus Scott McCain '82 and his wife, SigEp mentor Lori McCain, joined for happy hour, sharing stories of their time at Purdue. Finally, the semester concluded with Purdue's first Grand Prix since the pandemic, where the brothers celebrated their accomplishments over the past semester together. We can't wait for this fall to see what it brings to the brotherhood. Have a great summer! Fraternally, Josh Ling '23 Chapter President Brothers standing proud during the 2021-22 class photo shoot.
