Majestic buildings crumbled from neglect or were torn down to provide building material; the city languished in a backwater, eclipsed by turmoil and neglect. Baroque architecture and art developed in italy and were first linked to the Catho- lic Church's Counter-reformation move- ment; the stupendous Baroque rebuild- ing of rome was directed by a succession of Popes, from sixtus V to innocent xi, with urban Viii towering above them all. Power and art were bound together by Papal patronage and interpreted by a "dream team" of sculptors, painters, and artisans. Join tom Paradise, a jack of all trades that includes geology, Climatology, Cartogra - phy, gemology as well as art history and architecture, as he explains the history of rome and the art found within. instruCtor: tom Paradise DAy/DAte: friday, 10/14/22 (1) time: 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM FormAt: in-Person LoCAtion: DraKe Cost: $25.00 olli Member $40.00 non-olli Member Forestry DeteCtiVe 101: reADing the mAnAgeD Forest LAnDsCAPe reCoVering From AgriCuLturAL ABuse DesCriPtion: the Wedington block of the ozark national forest is composed of badly eroded farmland and grazed woodlot used as an experiment by the soil Conserva - tion service to investigate methods to return such abused land to productive forest use. Dr. fred Paillet will investigate how well this experiment has resulted in an approach to natural woodland as cultural features such as roads and old homesteads fade away. Man - aged pine plantations are being invaded by native hardwoods in fierce competition with invasive exotics. this is a location where the jointing pattern of underlying karst features are clearly expressed at the surface. a long- established hiking trail has been modified for bicycle use to provide an example of how such intensive use affects erosion. here is a forensics case with multiple overlapping cases to resolve. forest Detective classes will be based on material from the Ozark Forest Forensics book available online at the ozark so- ciety web page. if anyone would like to order this book, please contact Dr. fred Paillet as he is offering a special author's reduced price of $15.
